Would this annoy you ?

I work in an open plan office and alot of the day is spent on the phone. There is one woman at the other end of the office and she is driving me mad. She dials a number, turns the phone on speaker phone and leaves it ringing until someone answers. She then picks up the phone and speaks as normal.

This means we have to listen to the sound of a ringing phone almost constantly. I hate the sound of an unanswered phone. Is it just me ?

Wouldn't annoy me. In fact I do it from time to time. Only when I'm ringing some support line or something as you could be on hold for quite a time.

If im ringing NTl or something like that I do it too. Its the fact that Im listening to it 8 hours a day that is driving me insane.

That would PISSSS me off!

Nope wouldn't annoy Pighead either. But then again I'm famed for my placidity.
If she done the ring ring noise manually from her voicebox then perhaps the annoyance would build. Otherwise its a definite no.
Conclusion: Tuskys getting grouchy in his/her old age.

Ah yeah definitely. Someone in work here does that too but only occassionally so it's fine, but there is something about that repeated ringing noise, urrghhh.

Thank god I am not alone. It just seems very inconsiderate to me. Is it so hard to put the phone to your ear ?

Pighead : I'll grouch YOU, sexually.

Ever so often is grand I suppose but doing that constantly is just irritating. Smash the phone off their face next time they do it and keep doing it until they get the idea.

Oh that would be such an annoyance, I'd most likely say nothing till one day I'd just snap and go over and punch her in the face!

YaY bottling up rage ! ^_^

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,443 ✭✭✭✭bonkey

Suggest to her to get a headset. That way she can keep her hands free, continue working, not have to hold a ringing phone up to ear, and not interrupt others.

If you need added leverage on this one, point out that for anyone else on a call it will sound very unprofessional to the customer (or whoever) at the other end.

Some guy in my old office did it, seriously pissed me off. SO ANNOYING!!!!!!!!

the only solution is to go postal.

    you know you want to

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,215 ✭✭✭galah

Hm, it could be my manager...hang on, no, my manager has phone conferences on speaker phone in an open plan office...now THAT'S fun!

Anyways - just send this lady a little email containing instructions on how to use the phone properly - I'm sure she'll appreciate a little training...

She could turn down the volume on the speaker too in fairness. Im sure theres a setting there that would let her hear it without the whole call center hearing too.

come in early to work and destroy the speaker in her phone

    /optional
    pee on all her stuff

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,288 ✭✭✭✭ntlbell

Have you considered she might like that and may start using the speaker phone even more?

But seriously, file a sexual harassment case against her. That solves EVERYTHING!

ah here what happens is people play the answering mechence message through there pc speakers for all to hear...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,367 ✭✭✭✭watna

A girll in my last job used to do this... even though I'd be on the phone to clients right in front of her. I started doing the "I'm on the phone, keep it down arm flap" every time she did it and she got the message. It drove me up the walls though... and it is very bad for the cutomers you are on the phone too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,414 ✭✭✭LoneGunM@n

I always hated that ... next time she does it, you could always aks her not to do it!

If that doesn't work, throw a desk at her ... she might think long & hard about doing it again :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,215 ✭✭✭galah

Or just walk over and hang up the phone.

Or disable the speaker button somehow...(chewing gum, blue tac etc)...

Bring a hammer with you to work, and the next time she does it calm walk over and smash the phone to pieces.
Then walk back to your desk and act as if nothing happened.

Your mother shouldn't pee on your family... that is very bad parenting.... and you should know better, doesn't matter how busy you are.

I think I might be able to beat that ^
    - There's a guy (elderlyish) that sits right beside me in work, and about 3 foot away from him is a 'confidential' cabinet that apparently requires being kept under lock and key 24/7. About 15 to 20 times a day, this guy gets up and unlocks this cupboard, takes out a file, locks the cupboard, examines the file for say, five minutes or so.. puts the file back in the cupboard, locks it again, and then about another five minutes later repeats the whole process again..

To add to the annoying frequency of this whole unlocking/locking procedure, he has about 20 keys on his key ring, so it's like.. JINGLE JANGLE JINGLE...JINGLE JINGLE JINGLE JINGLE..!!!

It is mind blowingly irritating :)

Wait, why would she do that...? Put the phone on speaker for the ringing part?

Have you thought of saying "Excuse me (stupid bitch face's name), its not really a big deal, but y'know the way you put the phone on speaker sometimes? It's kind of distracting, would you mind not doing it please?"

Maybe she's too busy and important to realize that she could actually cradle the ear piece between her ear and shoulder...or maybe she doesn't have a neck, making this difficult. Know what annoys me? People with no necks.

I am honestly tempted to ask you for the address of your place of work and details as to which office and which phone are hers so I can walk into it after hours dressed in maintainance overalls, examine it, determine it is faulty and repair it by opening the casing and stealing the hands free button for great justice.
