    Give you some background...
This is the moment an armed Ballymurphy hood attempted to hijack a car on the Falls Road.
The frightening incident, which occurred last Tuesday evening, only ended when residents fought off the criminal and his friends.
Witnesses to the gun drama were heavily critical of the PSNI.
Despite being called 30 minutes before the attempted hijacking, officers failed to respond.
“I phoned the PSNI at 8:51pm, half an hour before the attempted hijacking,” said one onlooker.
“I gave the PSNI the name of the guy who had the gun, his address and a full description, but they did nothing.
“This could have ended a lot sooner if they had bothered sending someone out.”
The gun-toting hood at the centre of the hijacking drama had been running amok for 45 minutes before being confronted by residents.
He was captured on CCTV in a local shop waving a pistol.
It is understood the footage has been handed over to the PSNI.
The drunk or drugged-up hood also smashed up cars parked near the junction of the Falls and Donegall Roads before threatening locals and drivers.
One of the vehicles he attempted to hijack at gunpoint contained two women and two children – both of whom are under eight-years-old.
It was at this point that he was confronted by angry residents. One man punched him before phoning for an ambulance. The gun was recovered and has been handed over to the PSNI.
“There was nothing else anyone could have done,” said an eyewitness.
“The hood was standing in the middle of the Falls Road with a gun trying to hijack cars.

“He was threatening to kill people, someone needed to do something, and the hood ended up getting punched.
“All this could have been prevented if the PSNI had come out when they were called.”
The wannabe hijacker is part of a teenage Ballymurphy gang nicknamed the ‘Rugrats’.
The gang has been responsible for a catalogue of violence in the area including petrol bombings, assaults and burglaries.
Locals suspect many of the gang members are working as police informants.
Despite being behind the vast majority of crime in Ballymurphy the teenagers have few convictions.
A spokeswoman for the PSNI said it was investigating the attempted hijacking.
She said: “Police in West Belfast received a number of calls in the area at that time which were prioritised accordingly.
“Police attended the scene when available; investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at Grosvenor on 0845 600 8000.” Editorial, page 16.
