New batch of tickets released for a sold out gig?

    When does this usually happen?

I know they did this for the Arcade fire gigs in London and a lot of sold out gigs here.

Is there usually an announcment or is it a case of just checking ticketmaster?

It's not announced but people who work for the company generally pass along the info, i had a friend who had a friend and got tickets to the unmentionable about 2 weeks ago. just keeping checking everyday...

Rarely is there an announcement for sold gigs, unless there is a legitimate reason for more tickets becoming avaialble such as increased capacity

they release extra batches near gig date mostly to combat touts

this did work to an extent with a certain festival last year by releasing batches at different periods before the festival, touts started to get worried, saw demand drop and began to lower prices. however the major problem as lordgoat said is that when ticketmaster staff get wind of news of extra batches for release they leech the information to their mates which eventually trickles to the touts thus completely undermining the whole purpose of the process

just keep checking ticketmaster, make the website and the particular event your homepage if you really are that desperate!

For a lot of the big festivals last year, the day before the gig you could buy tickets the day before in the ticketmaster outlets but not the web. To stop touts i presume

For Arcade Fire they just announced extra dates after the initial event was sold out... at one point last year they played 7 times in London over the course of two months. Common practice really (Interpol did the same for their upcoming Nov gigs).

releasing more tickets for a "sold out" gig ....is a ploy by the concert promoters to catch out the touts.

the touts usually buy in bulk on the original day of release in the hope that they're going to make a killing, so the promoters release a new batch so as to undermine the touts market.

so keep an ear out for more tickets to be released, on the run up to a so called >>sold out concert

It makes sense to hold back tickets. All the tickets have been paid for, if the touts are stuck with them it only makes it better for the concert organizers, they get all the money but fewer people to take care of/clean up after.

Now that they are barcode scanning I would be wary about buying off any touts, and it will be very difficult to legitimately sell tickets at or below face value since the buyer will be wary of duplicates.

I reckon duplicates are very common. If I bought expensive camping tickets, all I have to say is I never got them in the post, then ticketmaster will tell you to go to the box office on the day with your credit card details. Now I could have sold the originals, or they could have been stolen in the post. Then the originals get sold on and the people who buy them are not let in due to the barcode showing they are "stolen"

call me a tout if u want, but recently for the first time i bought tickets for an upcoming concert with the intention of making a killing on ebay.

But it looks like im going to make a loss, the concert wasn't the sell out as everyone expected....serves me right i suppose:o

Ok, I've been letting this go for a while cos there's some helpful information but it's gone too far now and obvious what it's about. Thread locked and no more "unmentionable" talk please :)
