Ok normally I wouldn't do this but have had some nice little photo successes lately (well nice for me on my low scale anyway), and I haven't really been sharing the news so I thought I may as well this time round. The mag publication post yesterday inspired me.

I've had one or two shots in local music mags lately, but that was nicely topped off a few weeks ago when one of my music photos was used as album artwork in iTunes!! What a buzz that was, but sigh, no credit for it. Nice to know that my shot is on something as big as the iTunes Music Store though.

Anyway, the point of this is that I finally got someone to add my name to my photos, two of which are now appearing on the official Divine Comedy website

... just that little giddy feeling inside today!

Here are the flickr links to the shots

Right, shouting from the rooftops over now!! Sorry ;)

Nice one Katie, I wish I was able to start earlier doing gigs as I loved the buzz from it.

I think the ability to have your images showcased only demonstrates the eye you have for the shots in that environment.

Well done , and a couple of months ago you seamed to be getting despondent with it all, if i remember right ! Theres a lesson there for us all, keep at it or maybe the break did you good :)
    Anyway congrats

    Thanks all!!

@thebaz, yeah I was! I had lost my "phmojo". I put the camera away for a month or two, just taking a break and looking for some inspiration. Then I moved to Galway, met Mark and Mike and got a bit of a taste for it all again. Actually I have to say that Mike in particular has made me wanna get back out there again, cheers Mike!!!

Cheers for the replies, nice to feel that making the effort is worth it on some level.

    Great stuff Katie.

We all go through that fed up with it stuff. I'm a bit that way myself at the moment. The spark comes back though and it often takes meeting someone with that spark to rekindle it. It's no harm either. a break from anything is good now and again. Roll on the holliers.

Thanks all!!! I think alot of my problem lately was not getting any positive feedback and not feeling confident enough to feel that my work was good enough just because I liked it myself. Maybe that's why meeting people like Mike have lifted the cloud a bit, amazing the confidence a kind word gives you. So THANK YOU ALL for your kind words here. It means a lot. Its not that I feel I need validation from my peers, but when talented people like the posters here take the time to reply to a thread with something nice then you feel like you are at least moving in the right direction!!

Life has been a bit distracting for me lately, alot of things have changed and its been a difficult time. I guess I just took a time out from all of it, even my music, but im slowly but surely finding my way back to the things I love to do.

C'mere girl, if you post your pictures, we'll give you feedback.
I try to look at everyone's pictures but hadn't found yours, until you posted the pictures from the airshow.

Not everyone will like your stuff but that doesn't mean it's not good. It's simply a matter of taste.

I always considered myself as someone who just liked to take pictures. Some of the feedback I've got has given me so much more confidence.

Bravo, well done. More pics from you please.:)

Yeah you're spot on! And I havent posted in ages, mostly cos I havent had anything I was happy with in ages, except for music shots. I havent posted on here in ages either, was popping in everyday to read but not posting. I used to try and reply to everyone's shots, must get back into the habit of posting again. Giving feedback is as important as receiving it! I guess im just saying thanks to people for taking the time to post to this and the airshow shots, I know I havent been offering my input lately so its nice that people would still take the time to post. That'll change though!! ;)

Absolutely! I couldn't get over the fact that people actually took the time to look at my pictures, offer advice and encourage me to keep at it. I make a real effort to offer the same courtesy to others.

Couldnt agree more. When I first started off on flickr I spent hours just sitting in college posting comments all day, used to love the constructive criticism group because id learn so much from what others posted about my shots and equally about other people's. I guess I just got busy and got out of the habit. I think looking at other people's work, and taking the time to look closely enough to comment on it motivates me to try new things, and to learn and improve. Most of us know that nice feeling you get when you read something nice someone has posted about your work, and its equally nice to give a little bit of that back!!

Whatever about randoms on Flickr, getting advice and encouragement from people on here, means a lot.
Looking forward to meeting some boardies on Saturday.
It's great being around people who share the love of photography.

The a zoo! I've avoided it for 20 years and haven't been convinced yet that it isn't some sort of sick joke at the expense of the animals. Sorry but I can't get my head around locking the poor hoors up for human gratification. Though, photographically, I have been tempted.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,547 ✭✭✭City-Exile

If you can present the magic of the animal kingdom to people and convince them of it's importance, then I believe Zoos serve a very valuable function. My 5 year old nephew still talks about a visit to London Zoo, two years ago. It leaves a wonderful impression on the minds of children.

Great strides have been made, to remove the caged environment, of Dublin Zoo. Fota is a wildlife park, so it began life, with minimal fencing.

Sorry for ruining your thread, 440Hz

Dublin zoo has changed so much over the years. Most animals now have much larger areas to exercise and play. Dublin zoo have been great.

It's well worth checking out now.

    hehe!!! That brings back memories!

Yeah I know what you mean, I'm not a big zoo fan either, walking around looking at caged animals makes me a little sad. On the other hand, if anyone wants to go on safari?? hehe ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

I'd love to go on safari. I guess Fota is the nearest thing we have in Ireland for that.

People really shouldn't judge the Dublin zoo on how it used to be. Have a look at the current zoo layout - http://www.dublinzoo.ie/visiting_map.htm

It's much bigger with much more room for animals.
