Importing into Media Monkey

Bit of a long story here. Got a new laptop and want to transfer my iPod tracks onto it without using iTunes. Downloaded Media Monkey to keep track of my files. All fine so far. I now want to transfer my iPod mini files into it so I go to your FAQ to find the answer! Downloaded 'CopyTrans' and all went well. Copied the tracks into my 'New Music' folder which is where I keep my downloads before importing into MM.

I now go to import the tracks from my 'New Music' folder but they don't transfer. Go to my folder and see that the tracks are type 'AAC Audio'. Ok, figure they have to be changed before they can be read by MM so back to FAQ again!

Downloaded MP3tag and managed to convert the tracks to MP4. Saved them.
Back to MM and re-imported. Nothing. Back to my 'New Music' folder to see that they were still showing as 'AAC' files. :(

Re-import into MM again but this time searching the whole of the 'C' directory. Still no luck. How can I do this? Is there an easier way of converting the tracks in my 'New Music' folder without having to use another program? I've spent ages of this so any help would be appreciated.
