Couple of things which have to be mentioned.

The first and most important, due to legality, is the restriction of the discussion of importing mounted laser pointing devices. (As I mentioned in another thread, red dot scopes are not included as they dont fire out a beam of light)

The law states that they are illegal to own unlicensed as they are in fact considered "component parts to a firearm". This does not mean all railed things are illegal. Lasers and nightvision are just specifically mentioned

( g ) save where the context otherwise requires, any component part of any article referred to in any of the foregoing paragraphs and, for the purposes of this definition, the following articles shall be deemed to be such component parts as aforesaid.

    (i) telescope sights with a light beam, or telescope sights with an electronic light amplification device or an infra-red device, designed to be fitted to a firearm specified in paragraph (a), (b), (c) or (e), and

Some may consider this harsh. It doesn't matter. This is what the law states. And it is not grey or wishy washy. It is there in black and white. Therefore it will be followed. (I'll add it to the charter soon enough) I have asked for advice on this from several moderators and they all agree. If it is illegal then do not discuss it.

why restrict it? you wouldnt be restricted on anyother forum selling or requeestinganything

Got to agree with Spitfire on this. Why should we be restricted becaus a few newbies wont read the charter. Maybe split the adverts section in two and have a For Sale and a wanted section. Anybody posting in these without relevence would then be dealt with as per the charter.

well there's no point in splitting the adverts forum into for sale/wanted because it's not a busy enough forum on it's own to warrant splitting...

from what i understand, the reason that we have a seperate adverts forum away from adverts.ie is the very nature of airsoft being replica's, you dont want the wrong type of people who are ill-informed of what airsoft is buying/selling airsoft guns...

if someone new genuinely wants to post in the adverts forum then all they have to do is request permission.

Thats a good point and I see the reason for restricting the posting as far as new people go but not for members who have been here for a while and are prety savy to the whole idea of posting. Can it be set up that people members would need a minimum ammount of posts befor been allowed unrestricted access?

make them ask permission to post first and before letting them post an ad, send them a questionair of legalitys, terminologys to be used / not used around airsoft, what you want it for ect ect. to see if he/she is a potential airsofter or just one of them unwelcome gobsh#tes

Comparisons to other forums don't work. So don't even go there. There are plenty of restricted/private forums on boards.ie.

Any member who has been here a while will at least have 30 or so posts. I didn't mean putting a restriction of 10000 posts or something. That would just be stupid.

A private forum which is viewable to the public but requires permission to post in would be a better idea.

Again, it's not something I've just gone ahead and done. I'm interested in hearing opinions before I do anything. I would just like to somehow restrict first time posters who have no idea what airsoft really is from requesting a gun. It's why the adverts section was sent here. So it could be monitored.

i agree with ya most of the way, yeah we need to restrict complete noobs. the only thing is what is stopping them from going on the likes of gunner or rsov or even that shop in cork and picking them up. so i don't really know, but i do agree we nedd some kind of restriction.

It's all about them going and seeking out at least some of the information before they try and buy something.

If they are going to go and look for info on here as to how to buy something from rsov or gunnar, chances are they should pick up some other useful information on the way. Not to mention see how serious we all are about this sport and that muppetry is not tolerated.

    I'm trying to somehow avoid this situation;

"hEyz budz, how does i gts a hgh pwered GUN? ne 1 sellin 1? kthx"

"Yes sure, go to X site. They'll post it to you in 4 day"

    "K Thx budx"

*Person is never heard from again*

Maybe it's actually unavoidable, I don't know. I just know that posts like that usually set off alarm bells in my head. And I'm sure I'm not alone on that one.

Might I suggest a standard 'Welcome' PM be sent to all new posters, giving them all the basic do's & don'ts? Once they've acknowledge that they read it, give them access to the sub forum.

I did something similar on one of the forums I mod'ed (although it was very very different to this one), and it worked well.

That's a really good idea actually. Similar idea has been discussed for the whole boards.ie site.

The only problem is, I only find out someone is new if I notice them posting something like I've just mentioned. Other than that it can be very hard to spot.

I suppose I could write up a pm and hold onto it just in case such a situation arises.

think it is unavaoidable, without making the whole forum private, which kinda defeats the purpose.

however, we do need some control, albiet small amount but at least we could not be held responsible if someone got one from the forum and then did something stupid

like crazyz idea, but if the regulars on here see someone theuy could PM yourself or report the post maybe?

Well, you can make it viewable to everyone but require permission to post in.

After Crayrabbits idea, I may just leave it the way it is. If such a post arises, the user will then be PMed some form of welcome message outlining everything.

Then watched like a hawk :D

People with 10,000 posts (from other forums on boards) could come in here and make a really bad post if they wanted to. And if they don't have access to the sales sub-forum they'll just use this one.

So, you can't really stop people making bad posts.

Also, some people just don't like participating in forums..poor typist etc. They may however want to buy/sell an airsoft gun for legitimate reasons. Forcing them to make X amount of posts before being able post in the sub-forum, is not good.

It's easy to spot those people that make one post here looking to buy a 'realistic looking gun'. We should all just keep an eye out for them...perhaps even report the post to you and you can delete it if necessary.

Okay then. The restriction over the adverts sub forum has been dropped in favour of a pm idea instead.

The mounted laser rule will be treated similarly to +1 joule guns.

Going to leave this stickied for a while just so no one can use the
    "Oh, I didnt know" excuse.
