Apologies if i should have just added this into the gym reviews feel free to move it in. Im currently in Carlisle and its starting to drive me crazy - its a decent place theres some great lads down there but its just getting ridiculously busy.
Basically im working up in Citywest and i was just wondering if anyone has anymore information on Citywest gym besides what was in the sticky. I was talking to the lad in The Supplement Store(dont think it was Mickk possibly another lad that works there on Saturdays) and id love to get into Pinnacle but it just isnt doable from here in work.
Im thinking of wandering over to the Citywest gym next week but just wanted to see if anyone has much experience of it?
Looking to find out the basics probably the thing annoying me most in Carlisle besides the crowds is the lack of heavy dumbells(they stop at 30kg).
Cheers for any info and again apologies if i should have just put this in the sticky.

    Heya - I'm in Citywest,
It's grand. I would usually head over at lunch or in the morning (when it is basically deserted!)
It would get kinda busy after work, but I never really go... I think a good bit of the people there at that time are there for the classes.

Edited to mention that dumbbells go up to 60kgs.

Hey, I'm there too and it's grand. There's plenty of heavy dumbells (not that I ever use em!) and as the previous poster said, it's v quiet during the day.

I heard a whisper recently that they're planning to upgrade is in the near(ish) future so might be good to get in now, in case fees go up after the renovations.

My only gripe, and it's a small one, is the changing areas could be cleaner and a bit fresher. Pool etc is v nice.

Thanks Olaola i pm'd you there.
Thanks Greenhorn too. I think your right about the upgrade i was talking to a lad in The Supplement Store and he mentioned that. I cant actually remember what they were getting though it was new equipment as far as i remember.

Yeah, you know yourself, you hear different things - I heard first that it was just the pool, saunca area that was being revamped - wouldn't do any harm... Another person told me they're going to extend through to the function room that adjoins the gym area. Who knows what'll be done in the end...

I just left Citywest - I was a member there nearly 7 years! - It has idyllic surroundings and the pool is beautifully decorated -The gym is spacious - but the equipment isn't as new as Carlislye - It can also get very busy at times.

The locker room are fairly standard and spa area is well done too.

The jacuzzi stops and starts in 15minute intervals - can be annoying -but it ensures everyone gets a turn at least!
The steam room has now got physcadellic lighting! -
The sauna is not the warmest and the jacuzzi has its cold days too. You can't put water on the sauna - it has a huge cage built around it.

I liked this gym. But it can be a nusiance getting assessment sessions.

They don't offer any specials - unless u think about leaving....
Guests have to pay 10euros/visit - which is a little annoying sometimes - because I often wanted to bring my younger brother to the pool and they would usually charge me full wack!

I found the cleanlyness has its off days - somedays its imacculate - somedays can be quite dirty.

The showers are the most annoying things in the world - u press the button and the water runs for a whole 2 seconds! count on using one hand to hold the button and the other the wash yourself with!

I joined originally with a colleague of mine from work - he stayed for about 3 years - he picked up a nasty skin infection from this place and was the reason for him leaving. It stresses the importance of wiping down the machines before and after u use them.
Anyway hope that is of benefit to u.

I've been using this Gym for about 2 months now. Gets busy enough after 5, but as already been said most are for classes and theirs enough machines to go around.

I've found it handy enough to get a re-assessment. The showers is the most annoying thing, but its not that important.

Just to say - they have put up posters/flyers this week about a refurbishment.

Seems like they are doing quite a large overhaul.

Hey , I have been a member there for about 5 years and still go 3 times a week.
There should be no problem with equipment as they have most of the standard stuff they have rows of treadmills , bikes and steppers never a problem getting one of these unless a GAA team is in the gym(rarely enough) and even then there’s usually enough.
2 studios, one for spinning and one for other stuff (box fit , yoga classes etc...)
Stretching area for abs and light weights/kettle's.

As for the main weights section which is mostly what i use they have a wall lined with free weights and 4-5 benches plenty of heavy weights from 5kg - 60kg, barbells/bars as well for deadlifts etc , benches can be quite busy as they are used alot but they become free regularly enough
They also have (from memory) - 2 smith machines, 1 power rack for squatting etc,2 cable machines , chin/dip station , 2 dedicated bench presses , 1 incline bench press. They have numerous machines for shoulder presses, triceps, leg extensions and the other usual machines (a number in the weights area and then more in another room off the main gym area).

Other gym facilities are decent enough changing rooms are alright , lockers ,showers , toilets etc pool is good but use it rarely. Sauna ,steam room too.

They sell supplements in the reception (don’t know price as never buy them)
As for busy times , the evening(after work) can get very busy and you can be waiting around quite a bit to use a bench or machine but nothing that doesn’t happen in other gym's too. hope this helps
