Don't know what to do

I've posted on here before about suffering from depression and what help I can get but I need advice again.

In March I was diagnosed with depression. Since then nobody has helped me. Samaritans were too busy, as were Grow. My hours clash with all the support groups, which is no one's fault. The doctor can't do anything more except refer me to hospital. I had an appointment with a psychiatrist this morning and the stop of seeing them was holding me together. Except they cancelled and now I'm shattered. I don't know where to turn or what to do. I feel like no one will talk to me because I'm not suicidal.

Sure I can take antidepressants and I have an appointment to see the doctor now but I shouldn't have to take antidepressants just because no one else will talk to me and that thought is wrecking my head. I just don't know what to do.

Have you tried Aware? They have "over 60 Support Groups operating throughout the country providing information to both patients and their families. Aware operates a 24 hour Helpline 1890 303302, which is a form of non-directive counselling, available to sufferers and their families".

That is a good suggestion from louisecm.

I hope this isn't considered as medical advice by the moderators as its not meant as such but do not come off your antidepressants without speaking to your Doctor first. Antidepressants are prescribed as a means to alleviate some of the symptoms of depression to enable you to take part in therapy. It can be hit and miss and you may need to try a few before you find the one that suits you. Sometimes because of the symptoms you can not actively take part in therapy without medication.

A book that is recommended by therapists is Mind Over Mood: Change How You Feel by Changing the Way You Think by Dennis Greenberger and Christine Padesky. It is a sort of workbook - you could maybe begin with that while you are waiting for your next appointment. I presume they sceduled you in again for another appointment?

Hang on in there tho- it really is worth it - I've seen people control their depression and their life is completely different now and they are very content and happy.
