Thanks Jools and no it was with the 100-400 on the 20D as I wanted the crop factor if required which to be honest I didnt as it was pretty close indeed. When I have the printer setup, I will more than glady do a print for Edward. A3 good enough??

    Sucky, are you mad!

Performance wise they are currently second in the world only to the F-22.

All they need is to get a AESA radar and the full spec air to ground software and weapons intergration. They have only been in service for 4 out of their planned 40 year life.

    Great photo btw.

I was asked why the vapour trail appears in aircraft and this was the response I got..

As the aircraft pulls up, lift increases on the upper surface caused by a drop in air pressure .. lowering the vapour point of the air and causing the vapour to form.... the more humid the air is, the easier it happens. The more humid the air, the lower 'g' it takes to cause it.

Thats it alright. Also most modern fighters have LERX's (leading edge root extensions) that help increase the speed of the air over the upper surfaces and generate even more vortices. The F-16s and F/A-18s are good examples of these.

You can also get long streams of vortices coming off the wing tips of airliners when landing and taking off.

This the LERX's on the F/A-18 in action.

    Frank is Fenster's brother!

and even tho Mark said not to quote him on this, he does say in another thread:
    Fenster wrote:
I think Frank is shooting with two 30D's with a 70-200 L IS USM, and a 100-400 L IS USM on top, right now, although don't quote me on that.

in response to ot - it doesnt have to be painted black or have jaggy edges to have low signature - and typhoon does. the F117 has been decomissioned already in favour of two planes - F22 F35 (JSF) as far as im aware...neither of which are 'stealth' in traditional sense...merely low sig.

sure the lads over on the military forums will be able to not only give you the specs but should be able to tell you what breakfast the pilots had yesterday.

point is, typhoon is currently thought to be second in the world of known aircraft only to F22.

on topic - which valley was the f15 shot?

The photo of the F-15E was got from www.airliners.net
I can't remember the exact details of the photo but they are on that site.

OT: The '117 is being phased out but they will be around a few years yet. The F-22 is more ''stealthly'' than the F-117 as it has a smaller RCS (radar cross section), the F-35 is unknown at this point but it is certain that its RCS will be bigger than the F-22.

The Eurofighter is like the Superhornet in that they both have a small signature (RCS) when spiked by radar from the front hemisphere.

Thanks matey, Biggin Hill was 2-3 June this year so I am assuming it will be around the same time next year - boards.ie meeting perhaps!! Farnborough is 2 weeks after (14-20 July 2008).

Oh and pictures of hot women holding camera gear in provocative poses should be given a rating!! :p:D

well i dont like the cut of your jib

tell the mrs. to come home soon - theres washing to be hung up, and by golly - im not bloody well doing it!

heres a taste tester - would yous lot be interested in a nice trip to Duxford at some point? Jools and i are doing it, and thats where they do a lot of the BoB memorial flights. It also has one of the best museums (imperial warmuseum if i recall correctly) with an american hangar newly opened. Tonnes of displays all year round - we are thinking of going over for septemberish...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,735 ✭✭✭mikeanywhere

    Sounds good matey,

Post a new thread about it and see what response you get from it. Depending on dates, I would be well up for it

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭odonnell

Ill let jools have a gander at this and have her say. Im personally aiming for those displays at the tail end of the year but i might end up goin on that trip myself - there are bigger displays next year. Just thought id mention the venue since its one of the best for anyone interested..... and you can get me more nice shots.... ill give you a shopping list if you like.

Aaaagghhhh, the truth prevails and anything specific sir would like to have?? I've also pencilled in the main air shows for next year as it would be good to give one or two of them a go.

Now if the old Thunderbollocks did anything like half the stuff in here it would have been well worth the soaking :D;)
