    Lads,
I have recently came into conflict with VCBet on the first day i opened my account. I was punting the English Greyhound Derby heats on Saturday night, when i tried to place a bet on the 9.15, i was told the race had reached it's cut off point, it was 9.15.01. The track was behind schedule as i was watching it live on the net. They refuse to send me my I.T logs to confirm i was late which breaks the data protection act, the race didn't go off to 9.18.30, i'm seeking legal advice. Beware!

i opened a vcbet account on Saturday. i am currently waiting for my free bet to come through but for some reason the website will not let me login:S maybe theyve deleted my account? ive never had a problem with any other major bookies but this one appears somewhat corrupt.

Did they take your bet and not pay or not take your bet at all?

If they didnt take your bet I dont think that legally you have a leg to stand on but I'm no lawyer.

As VCbet is an English bookmaker and Irish greyhound racing is a small part of their market they closed the betting at the expected off time of the race. They can close the book at any time they choose as far as I'm aware.

    I love stuff like this.

Under what remit are you seeking legal advice?

No bookmaker is under any legal obligation to accept a bet, regardless of time the bet is placed.

I don't see how your statement is relevant. Try reading the OP again.

That if it was a small part of thier market that they may have had a trigger to close off the betting at exactly 9.15.

They don't have to take your bet... the time doesn't matter at all , they could refuse or take a bet on the 2102 world cup if they wanted to....

betfair etc often stop taking bets at the scheduled off time of events that havent even started yet. mainly small/obscure things obviously.

mickc's post makes sense to me Bluetonic

    Lads,

They are telling me i was one second late for the bet, but if i had of phoned them i could have got on, they will not send me the I.T logs to prove this to me, which breaks the data protection act. The heats were live on blusquare t.v, and a company the size of them claim they could not see it, how could i have got the bet on the phones then?

fair enuf if they are breaking the data protection act, you can pull them up on that but legal advice re. a refused bet is pointless AFAIK. Bookies turn people away looking for bets every day.

Btw I agree with you that its nonsense, just saying legally I don't think you've a leg to stand on re. the knock back

What relevance has the fact that Irish greyhound racing is a small part of VCBets market got to do with the OP mentioning that he was betting on English greyhound racing???

For some reason I read Irish greyhounds..

    Ignore that comment so.

Online bookmakers close most events at the official off - even horse races from the smaller tracks. - They have it written in the t&c's.

    From VC
    6. i) All prices are subject to fluctuation and are available up to the official off-time of the event concerned. ii) Where the official 'off' is not announced, bets are accepted up to the advertised start time. iii) Any bet that is accepted after the advertised or official start time - other than bets on In-Running markets - will be void

With so many events being offered by bookies it seems fair enough to me that they stop taking bets at the official off time. I wonder if the OP would have posted if his bet had lost.

If you are taking legal advice then you are paying money to lawyers for nothing. Gambling debts are not legally enforceable afaik.
