    Hi folks,
Anyone ever owned an epiphone explorer? What are your opinions?

    Cheers

If you're going to get a Epiphone brand new in this country, save your money and get a better Explorer second hand from Japan. The Gibson Explorers are damn nice though.

Yeah I was looking at the 'real thing' over the w/end. They are going for 1,200 in the sound shop, just want to see some alternatives first.

Edwards do some explorers too, MIJ, you'd get em off Ishibashi. Definitely a step or two up from Epiphone level.

The best alternative is don't buy a guitar in Drogheda!

http://www.ishibashi.co.jp/webshop/guitar/esp/edwards/eex105e.htm should cost about €850 shipped and will more than likely be a much better instrument given Gibson's quality control. You should be able to find a second hand one fairly easily too.

Played one before. (think) There was no lock nut fitted and the high e popped out across my fingers and cut me. Other than that, impossible to play comfortably sitting down. Japan is a spiffing idea though if you really want one.

Thanks, everyone seems to play either strats or lp's, you dont here much about explorers for some reason.

Cos most people look wrong playing Explorers :p Even though they're huge, they're surprising comfortable to play.

Yeah but they are much cheaper than an LP and possibly very under rated.

An LP is much harder to make than an explorer though.

i didnt find it to hard to play sitting down, then again i was playing a flying v a dew minutes before i played the explorer!!
played an epie explorer last april, suprised me, i didnt think it sould sound as good as it did, i would consider one the next time i buy a guitar. I own an epie LP, the explorer has much better fret coverage

I'm going to agree with what's been said already, and say to go Japanese.

That's the second person I've heard of having their high E not fitting in the nut.

I emailed coda about that Tokai a couple of months ago and they said delivery to Ireland is £29, so overall it would cost 888 Euros.

I played an epi explorer yesterday and found it very comfortable to play, so much in fact I think I found a cure for my recent GAS attack.

Ger the man, I don't wanna hijack your thread dude, but an explorer is definitely my next purchase.
I'll be keepin' one eye on Ishi for those Edwards and the other eye on those Tokais.
