just FYI: Canon products are now back for sale on 7dayshop. While not as cheap as Kea/URGalaxy or B&H, all the stock is UK spec, so no extra charges will apply. Royal Mail Special Delivery Postage is only 6.95 GBP...

not as cheap indeed... 400 quid of a difference on a 5D. Cheers for the news, nice to have yet another supplier to add to the list :D

yeah the price differences seem to be bigger on some products. The rebate scheme is valid though, until the end of June, so some of those prices will be reduced by the rebate amount...

I got my nifty fifty off these a few years ago and it only cost me 75 euros. It just over 100 now, but still cheaper than most places...

5d is about €400 cheaper than Ireland. Not too bad

so kea are 800 cheaper than Ireland then? seems like a good deal... Actually hold on, kea are 650 cheaper than Jessops, a shop to which I acquired a passionate hatred for on Sunday...

where do I start... at the beginning I suppose..

Took a spin into town on Sunday afternoon before heading back to Cork and decided to pop into Jessops to have a browse about. Wanted to have a look at a 5D because I'm pretty much decided on getting one. Boyo behind the counter finishes chatting to his friend and comes over. I say " I'd like a look at the 5D with a 70-200 2.8 IS on it please". He looks at me like I'm taking the piss. After several seconds of blank expression on his face I say "Yes, I actually own my own 70-200, but it's in the car".

He eventually, after much hesitation, gives me the combo and I proceed to feck around testing the focusing, changing ISO and taking a few test shots. This and that, nothing too taxing. Some smalltalk (he basically attempts to tell me the features of the camera in a half-assed way, despite the fact that I tell him I already own two dslr bodies. "Oh, you must be some kind of pro so, yeah?" is his response.

So I give him back the 5D and ask for the same lens on the 1Ds MKII he has in the display cabinet. He looks at me again like I'm taking the piss, takes the 1Ds down and puts the lens on it. He goes on at length telling me that he can't let me take any shots with it as it's brand new, it's his only one in the store and if I take a shot with it, he wont be able to sell it as new. Boo hoo I'm thinking to myself, not my problem. I also find myself wondering if he'd be giving the same bull**** speil to a guy that came in with cash bulging out of his pockets.

I say I'm not interested in taking any shots with it, I just want to compare AF speed. He repeats that he can't let me take any shots with it and with a now somewhat irritated tone in my voice I say something like "Yes I know, you said so already".

So he gives me the camera, I raise it to my eye and nothing... There isn't even a battery in it. I turn to him and trying to keep composed say "Do you not even trust me enough to put a battery in it?". He begins to look somewhat embarrassed, I basically throw 8 grands worth of camera kit back at him and before I storm out of the shop say "Well that's ****ing pointless isnt it?".

So today, during a quiet moment at work, I write a nice long letter to the Jessops customer liaison office in the UK. It'll be in the post tomorrow.

I do hope I didn't bruise one of the chap's ribs when I fired the camera back at him :D

Jessops should be pleased with your letter;) I read last week that their closing a very large amount of their outlets in the UK, losing millions every year aparently to online stores, which isn't surprising, there is nothing worse than having someone a week out of school telling you stuff about gear someone told them to say and then charging you 20% or more than online.Even though Cons are expensive, at least most of them know their stuff, especially Mike, he's a real pro sales man, never condesending or rude and always willing to spend time and let you tinkle. I still don't buy there anymore though, too much money saved online.
