Trouble with lcd monitor

a week or two my parents monitor stopped working, when the Pc turns on the standby light switches to green for a few minutes but no picture comes up. Mam said she can sometimes see flashes of what should be behind the blackness, and I thought I saw something similar as well.

It is a benq t705 and we didn't really have any trouble with it before this, I took it down to my Pc and hooked it up only to have the same problem. Black screen, monitor comes out of standby for a little while but nothing else.

I don't have any idea what it could be, and I'm getting yelled at for not being able to fix it. Are there places in dublin that can take a look at an lcd monitor for me ?

Does the led stay green even though no picture appears? If it does then its most likely the backlight thats the problem. Had the same problem a while ago and didn't have much luck finding anywhere to get it fixed.

Hang on! Did you say that you tried your monitor and you got the same problem? If so, I'd suspect there's either an issue with the VGA connector, and if its on-board, get a cheap PCI or AGP graphics card and see. If its plugged into a card already and there's an option of on-board VGA, try that first!
