Don't see his name mentioned around these parts much, which is odd as he is one of the more interesting American film-makers around today. Having just watched brilliantly demented debut feature Spanking The Monkey (which for some strange but positive reason was in the new release section of the local video store - odd for a 13 year old re-release) I am once again impressed by his constant efforts to make unique, intelligent films.

He is, of course, the kind of director who by his very quirky nature divides opinion. His hilarious 'existential slapstick comedy' I Heart Huckabees is adored by some (myself included) and despised by others, almost in equal measure. His second feature is the pleasingly loopers comedy Flirting With Disaster, which I turned on unsuspecting one night and was pleasantly surprised. Three Kings is probably his best known, and one of the best - and funniest - modern war movies.

Any other fans / haters here?

It's unlikely Lily Tomlin is going to work with him again.

And Clooney I think, wanted to punch him.

Christopher Nolan isn't a fan either. Supposedly the day that Jude Law was cast in the Prestige, David O Russell at a public event wrestled Nolan, and put him in a head lock demanding that he release Law from his film contract.

The full story is here, hard to tell how true it is.
