I'm fairly sure that undergrads aren't allowed to park on campus, but I'm unsure about postgrads.

Ok, the boards ghost strikes again.

Can students park motorcycles/mopeds/scooters on the college grounds?

I have noticed a motorcycle bay opposite the hamilton building and I have seen many scooters parked at the side of buildings, so it is allowed but is it available to students and if so what is the procedure to do this?

That's some damn good question-anticipating there Myth! And they say people can't read minds...

Reason I asked is that the motorcycle bay usually isn't full and they could easily have a few more in there. I just can't face another year of 90 minute bus journeys at rush hour which should take no more than 30 and I want to dodge the traffic, so I'm considering getting a 49cc bike to dodge the traffic :D.

Anyone know the definite answer to this?

Hrm. The only information on the Director of Building's website is about cars, so I'm unsure what the line on motorbikes are.

Odd, I didn't know that students could use the An Post site for parking.

I can't find anything as regards doing a google search with site:tcd.ie motorcycles, so perhaps they haven't been taken into account? I've never seen a moped or motorcycle with any form of parking pass on campus anyways.

    Perhaps someone else knows...

49cc, that's moped territory right? I knew a girl who drove in on her moped everyday from lucan. She parked in that place opposite the panoz, kind of behind the chemistry building. So I can't see why you wouldn't be allowed. They're not exactly a whole lot bigger than pushbikes.

    49cc - no licence required :-)

(whoops got this one wrong - you need an M rather than an A (normal motorcycle licence. I remembered that you get an automatic M when you get a b (cars) but never knew it was a standalone licence. Cheers Crash)

I know a guy who drove in a motorbike each day too - no problems.

Anybody know how strict they are about even letting students drive onto campus? I've only been in once..

Just state that you're dropping/picking up something

thats how I usually get cars in...for dropping or picking stuff up though,.

Sorry to drag up an old thread. I was passing Trinity and popped into security in Front Arch and they said parking motorbikes is no problem for students in college. He did recommend I get a very good lock because apparently more bikes/scooters/motorcycles get stolen in Trinity than out on the street!!

Same as us so. However, I seriously doubt we get parking privileges. There're over 100 phd students in the school of physics alone.

LiamD, Be careful with the bike in Trinners. I was there myself (graduated last year) and had my moped stolen back in second year :( Happened only 3 weeks into the term. Not ideal given the financial situation of a student and I had a very decent lock on it! It's probably best not to bring it in at all if it can be avoided, especially if its an expensive model.

So students are definitely allowed to park motorbikes ?
