They seem to reject every card I throw at them, Error 998 card declined error on each of the 3 cards I have tried so far.

Just wondering if anyone here successfully buys stuff from maplins.co.uk?

I had bought a few cakes of Verbatim discs from them some months ago when they were on special offer, though had no problems with CC rejection.

I suggest emailing them to see what's up.

Great to hear you have same problem and I am not alone, sorry!
Previously a have ordered two orders from Maplin with no problems.
Yesterday and today I tried to order and I got the same error message and card declined.
It gave me a fright actually, I thought something wrong with my card.
I send them email yesterday no reply yet today.

For the first order you need to order over the telephone, after that online ordering works fine. This happened to me about 6 months ago. The other thing Maplin do is send an letter with an order password, you have to ring them up with this password before they will ship the order, this is to make sure you are a legit customer and that your credit card matches the address.

Hope this is of some use...

Jesus, that's a load of hassle! Wait for a letter, then ring an UK number, and then wait even longer for the actual order?!

Wasn't the case with my 1 and only order, so security measures must've been hiked up a bit since then.

Is it to do with the wee charge perhaps? Is the item electrical?
