Hey I am looking to get a laptop and was just wondering if anyone knew what laptopsdirect are like to buy from?
They are good prices so just wondered if they are what they seem.
    Any info would be helpful.
    Thanks:D

There was a thread sometime ago which questioned their customer service department, but I'm unsure whether improvements were made.

I bought a PC for my cousin from them. I haven't heard anything from him so I guess it's still working fine for him.

    Delivery was quick.
Not much more I can really say.

Again Ill say it, avoid this crowd like the plague, been there had a bad experience, if you want to risk loosing money, then off you go, we are down an amount of cash with them, go to Dell or buy elsewhere, I will never go the laptopdirect.uk(ie) route again

    Oh here we go again.

Good informative post there bogman.

The Godess- do your research. For some reason, laptopsdirect seem to polarise people on this forum. You will here both good and bad, personally, I have only had good experiences with them.

Some people seem to take issue with the fact that they are UK based, which is completely irrational. Some people think they are a hundred times better than Dell.

The general feeling I get is that if you are ordering a standard machine, with no modifications and enter a home address where somebody will be available to take delivery, then there is no problem.

It appears that if you have some special requirement, such as extra memory, bigger hard-drive, etc., then this is where they let themselves down. Or if the delivery address is different from the billing address, then there have been problems in the past.

Again, these are only my observations from posts here and in other threads. The best advice I can offer is to read both here and in other fora such as the Bargain Alerts and make up your own mind.

Tom, you obviously didn't read my thread about ordering a 32" lcd TV b4 Christmas and getting a Laptop instead, go check my earlier posts and do ur own research before making statements like this please, if u want to buy from laptopdirect its no problem, they will answer the phone 1st time, but if u have a problem, it will take months to sort I can tell you, between them not answering the phone and sending robot type replies, same reply to a word every time you email them, their after sales is A DISASTER.
We are still down a fair amount of money, Laptops direct are BAD NEWS, I don't care where they are located, I picked them 1st day bercause I thought they seemed to offer good value, little did I know what I was letting myself into.
    cheers mate....

Statements like what? That they polarise people on this forum?

It's still not clear from your rant as to whether you attempted to buy a laptop off them or not? Did you?

Hey guys thanks for the help
Worked it out and in the end it would only be €10 more expensive to get it from dabs.ie, think I might go with them, just in case....
    Thanks for the replys though!!

I don't post here often, but thought I better post on this one. My friend ordered off these about a month back, as they seemed to have some nice deals, one acer one in particular. He showed it to me first as I'm fairly into computers, and I thought it was an unreal deal. So after a week or so more he ordered it. When I went over to his house a while later I had a look at it, and was like wtf? It was different from the one advertised.

So I went back to the site, and looked at the page he ordered it from. And now it was changed from what I remember it being before. Now, I thought, ok, maybe I was looking at a different one before, but I could have sworn it had a webcam and was a C2D one. So when I went home, I had a look through google cache, and I found they had actually changed the page!

Admittedly, the model number of the processor should have alerted me it was a Core Duo, but when you see a page telling you that it's core 2 duo, you kind of assume it is. And the webcam thing was just purely misadvertised, since it didn't have one.

I printed out the stuff so he could get onto them and basically threaten with legal action so that he could get the laptop he thought he was getting (and hopefully get them to admit their mistake and inform others who were effected), but (being very stupid beyond any real reasons that I could comprehend) he decided against it; as it was still a reasonable deal, and he doesn't like hassle.

Anyway, just a quick warning to print out the pages when you're ordering it, and make full sure nothing has changed if you were looking at it previously. (I was fairly miffed with them over changing the page, as I was considering the laptop myself (though I would have pursued the matter as I don't like being ripped off). Anyway, I personally probably won't be dealing with them in future. I never heard of them doing something like this before, but I suppose a lot of people would do similar to cover up a screwup. They are fairly well priced for a lot of their laptops as long as you receive what you ordered)

avoid these people if u can
they think customer service is ignoring u till u get so sick of asking u just give up
their price es look good but if they send u a dead laptop it will take months of pain to get it sorted
