Why don't they just get it over with and let Dimmu Borgir score a few movies?

It seems that yet another trailer to use Dimmu Borgir's music, is for the upcoming Stardust, which is one of the films I'm looking forward to the most this year:

43 seconds in, is Dimmu Borgir's Eradication Instincts Defined. You can listen to the full song here if you want. The same song was also used in the trailer for Hellboy, along with the song Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse (At 1.52):

And I'm sure I've heard their music used in other trailers aswell, just not too sure offhand what ones. But crikey, it seems they must be the most cinematic band out there, what with all the usage in trailers, and it can't be too long before they're just hired outright for a full film score.

I don't think it's too unlikely either, considering just how incredibly filmic their latest music video is (Not to mention, the whole concept of the new album):

But yes, definetly looking forward to Stardust.

the reason they don't do OST work is because for every epic song that blends orchestral pieces with metal there's 10 that are just raw death metal (or whatever sub-genre you want to shove 'em in).

and they've very inaccessible vocals for most people

Gave a few of their albums to a friend after he commented onhow much he liked the music in the Stardust trailer. He handed them back the next day and asked that I never recommend music to him ever again.

Well when I suggest they do a soundtrack, I'm not suggesting that they use a typical song structure, vocals and all, but rather they compose music to suit the movie, which I'm sure they're well capable of. Oh and FYI, they're considered Black Metal, not Death Metal. ;)

There's no accounting for some peoples tastes,or inthis case lack of.

To be entirely fair, if a person is not into metal, I wouldn't expect to hand them a Dimmu Borgir CD and like it straight off the bat. And there was quite a bit of other music played in the Stardust trailer, maybe he wasn't even refering to the Dimmu piece at all?

He was refering to the Dimmu Borgir piece, he pointed it out in the cinema a few weeks back.

He does like metal, but more so the mainstream variant. He's big into Cradle of Filth and Man Must Die.

Ok, I'm a little taken back now, he likes Cradle of Filth, but didn't care for Dimmu?

He's a little weird that way. For example he hates Ziltoid but likes Strapping Young Lad and loves Kyuss but despises Queens of the Stone Age. I guess it just proves the old saying, each to their own.

On a side note Stardust is looking rather impressive. Hoipefully it will be as good as Gaiman's book.

Dimmu Borgirs style is pretty much perfect for movie trailers anyway, the whole orchestral apocalyptic sound is ideal for a trailer, but not really a full movie score, although Shagrath is a fairly creative chap and could probably pull it off given half a chance, and hour or so of music without going all black metal wouldnt be too much for him, considering how little time they spend playing heavy on In Sorte Diaboli (still a thoroughly enjoyable album).

Darko your friends tastes confuse me greatly, that is all.

As it does most people. It could be worse, he could be into dance music.

i know what you mean alright, but before you pick them out to do an OST, some fancy producer type has to pick them out. stick on dimmu borgir and most non-metal fans will find it difficult to get past the vocals...

and black metal, death metal... pah! it's all the one :p
