K, got this handset a few hours ago and am having a bit of a horid time with the MapLoader software. Anytime I go to download maps, it downloads them but then throws up an error saying "connection to storage medium has been interruped. Attach your storage medium and retry" when copying the download to the handset. Incidently, it lets me delete maps from storage without any such errors.

Any idea what is going on here?

Also, what software is people using for the voice assisted navigation/directions? The amount of conflicting info online is driving me mental to be honest.

Have to say I haven't had any problems such as you describe but maybe the article on this page may help?

Been lookin at some posts here about the N95 but still not very clear on the gps. Does it come with maps loaded and if so, can you use it as a navigation device without any network charges?

Also, does a sim card have to be inserted to use as a GPS device? From what I have seen, nearly all options involve network costs also? Surely for a phone of this price, you get maps preloaded or can download them free etc and just pop in a memory card and away you go?? Also, whats the stroy with voice directions? Can you use a bluetooth headset and just let it guide you?

    1. Put microSD into phone
    2. Switch on and play with maps application
    3. Close maps application
    4. Connect to PC in "Mass Storage Mode"
    5. Load your maps with map loader available from here

If the above doesn't work, re-format the microSD and start again
You can substitute inserting the microSD to your MMC reader for step 4
Ensure when connecting to PC, it doesn't automatically go to PC Suite Mode

You don't need Nokia's map loader from hell to get maps on your phone. Just get 'em from http://nokiamaps.moo.no . Works with any operating system and you don't need to install anything.
