looks funny. 3 funny quotes in my opinion which is pretty good considering the standard of simpsons tv show lately.
pres arnie: I was elected to lead, not to read
Bart: THis is the worst day of my life. Homer: The worst day of your life so far
Homer (while) flicking through the bible: This book doesnt have any answers!

could this be a return to form???

I'm trying to get excited about this, I really am, I want to like it. But "meh" is the only reaction I can muster to everything I've seen and heard so far.

    Two best moments:

    (a) Ralph yelling the 20th Century Fox music!
    (b) "Spider-Pig..!" :D

meh the only thing that i got a smile out of was spider-pig.

before seeing this trailer i was all up for going to this hoping that they'd make a good movie, now i'm going to be really hard pushed to go to it.

as for transformers, all i'll say is "directed by - Michael Bay".

Transformer looks like absolute garbage, to be frank. I mean, have you see this clip? http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=21030

    Awful, turgid muck!

Finally someone who agrees with me... don't get me wrong, i'm a big fan of 'Transformers' but the film looks atrocious. I'd have been happier with another feature length cartoon-version movie, as the real-life CGI transformers look TACKY!

PS - but in saying that, i've always appreciated Shia LaBoeuf. He was excellent in 'Holes', hilarious in his brief appearance in 'Freaks And Geeks' and always put in a consitent (and is usually pretty funny) in stuff like 'I Robot' and 'Constantine'

Oh, I was a huge fan of Transformers as a kid, and absolutely loved the original animated movie. Even seeing it recently, it's managed to live up to the old rose-tinted glasses. But I can't imagine any level of fanboyism could keep my expectations up for the Michael Bay effort, and I'm at a loss as to how anyone with a brain could possibly be looking forward to it; it's like standing infront of a freight train coming at you at full speed with a smile on your face, expecting that when it hits you, it'll be an enjoyable experience.

As for Shia LaBeouf, I seriously cannot stand the guy. I don't know what made me sit through Holes, and in both Constantine and I, Robot, he made me cringe. I've never seen Freaks And Geeks though.

Could not agree more... you took the words right outta my mouth. I mean people cannot actually expect it to be enjoyable!

Yeah.. he seems to be getting very mixed opinions in the movie world. But you don't think he was impressive in 'Holes'? He was only 16 or so when that was filmed - thought it was quite a mature performance myself. It was a kids film but he held himself high above all the other amatuer child actors in the movie (not to mention Sigourney Weaver's woeful performance).

PS - here he is in 'Freaks And Geeks' - funnier in the context of the show but the "don't pull their hair... cos they'll jerk up.. and you'll fall. And don't pull their bra-straps.. cos they'll wiggle... and you'll fall.." had me in stitches when i first saw it.

    in the last ten imo

spider-pig was the only funny thing in that trailer IMO. overall it jsut looks crap, pretty much what the simpsons has been like for the past several years.

transformers looks amazing! especially from this trailer...

can't wait for it,should be a good laugh.

Sigh, that trailer was just horrible. If this and that impending crapfest that is Transformers are the best we have to look forward to this summer then I think 2007 will be remembered only as the year the blockbuster finally died.

my mate has seen a good bit of transformers (he reviews movies) he said the 45minutes he saw were brilliant.

Ah come on, there's a lot more to look forward to than The Simpsons and Transformers. Even on the big blockbuster front, there's the new Harry Potter film, Stardust, Ratatouille, The Bourne Ultimatum. Maybe you're not too excited about those either, but there's definetly plenty of things coming out that could be quite excellent.

If the Bourne Ultimatium is anything like the first two,it should be very good.

Only worthwhile sequel this year to be honest!

And the fact that Paul Greengrass is behind the helm again - it should be impressive.

No I'm pretty excited about Bourne Ultimatum but I don't really count that as a blockbuster movie. I guess I'm just annoyed that two franchises I have had a lot of time for in my life are being reduced to such steaming piles of poo. Maybe Indy 4 will restore my faith next year? :)

I've never seen Freaks And Geeks though.

Check it out if you ever get the chance. Finest 18 hours of television ever produced. Well worth the import.
As for the trailer, doesn't look too bad. Interviews seem to suggest the makers really did give it their all. That said, Matt Groening is still under the delusion they are making the best TV show around (been down hill ever since Matt Groening started work on the excellent Futurama IMO). Echo the sentiments of everyone else about the SpiderPig line. Plot looks like it has something to do with a biodome perhaps?
As for Transformers, I also think it looks like trash. One cannot expect good things from Michael Bay, no matter how beloved the franchise is. Have never watched that much Transformers, but seems to me like it should stay animated.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,049 ✭✭✭Driver 8

Maybe the Transformers movie will be trash, but, be honest with yourselves, what was it before, high art?

The credit on the end of the Transformers trailer says it all "based on the toys created by Hasbro"-it's a movie based on toys! Don't let your nostalgia fool you here, the tv show was the same, but it was very entertaining "trash". Let's not be snobby when we're talking about a film based on toys.

And the Simpsons? Look, the old writers are back, and i think we'll all agree the writing has been the main issue from the newer seasons. The writers are back, and while it might be en vogue to be down on the Simpsons (i forget which other show is flavour of the week), I'll reserve judgement until I actually see it. Here's hoping...I do get the feeling that a lot of people (not necessarily on boards) are willing it to be underwhelming, so they can have their "i told you so" moment. I'll stay optimistic.

Im not impressed by any of the Simpsons trailers so far. i think theyre just trying to make it too epic or something. Doesnt really feel like the Simpsons to me. However Ralph in the Fox logo was freakin hilarious. That child can make anything funny! :D

-as for transformers, giant freakin robots blowing stuff up. It should be one of those 'throe rational thinking out the window and just enjoy the fireworks' kind of movies. It couldn't be worse than Spidey3 or Pirates3... could it?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,698 ✭✭✭✭BlitzKrieg

that simpsons trailer has been an improvement on what I was expecting, so I am sort of happy.

As for Transformers, I stand by what I have been hearing from people who have seen bits of it. Which is the plotline is a mess, the humour is childish, but the action scenes are the best this summer (which isnt very hard) and there are alot of them.

Which is what I want out of the remaining blockbusters. Everyone of them have failed to deliver anywhere decent action scenes so if transformers does deliver that, then I am happy.

I was never really a Simpsons fan, and have watched only a handful of shows from the last few seasons but I have to admit that the new trailer acutually has me looking forward to July 27th.

In regards Transformers, I can't wait. The trailer is fantastic, and come on it features gigantic robots fighting one another onscreen for a good two hours. What more do you need?

i watched a few more of those transformers clips.

the only one that had me really worried was this one:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5mbCvxABNg

its sort of funny, but it draws from the action :(

Wasn't this thread about 'The Simpsons' new trailer at one point?

Hmmmmmmm.... i think so....... but can't be sure!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,921 ✭✭✭✭Pigman II

Omg that is just awful! It looks like a Herbie movie - but with more guns and lesser acting. My heart even died a little at seeing John Turturro in there :( I think I'll slit my wrists sooner than see TF.

Weren't you the first one to post a reply entirely about Transformers (and not about the Simpsons at all)?

I'm sure I will see the Simpsons movie. Hopefully with the old writers on board they will return to form although a lot of the humour appears to be overly slapstick, like more recent episodes. I hope there is more subtle older style jokes in it. Only one way to find out.

Jesus all i said was i was looking forward to transformers, i didnt think it'd derail the entire thread :D

back to the OP. TBH my main problem with the simpsons movie is i just dont think its going to be funny. how the hell could you find that spider pig bit tear inducing? its fecking lame. i will admit the writing better than the series but thats not saying much. look at it this way when i went to see south park the movie in the cinema i missed loads of it because i was laughing so hard. do you honestly expect the same with this movie?
