Exam Failure Query

Ok - In first year I did 13 modules (65 credits) but only 12 of these counted.
I am now in second year.
One of my electives was pretty tough, I dont think that I failed it but just in case this has been sitting on my mind lately.
I know a number of people who also did 13 modules last year and they were able to carry over 5 credits to second semester. Is this still possible to do if I fail my second year elective so that I wont have to repeat it next Christmas?

    Any Ideas?
    Thanks for the help.
