Talbot Samba

    Hi,

    Last weekend i came across a 1983 Talbot Samba, claimed to be in very good condition. Any ideas on how much it's worth?

    Nothing to 1000, depending.

    It was just another small 80s supermini and one now is only of interest value to a few people (those that have an odd fetish for 60s, 70s, 80s mundane metal... come on now, hands up). Along with the standard cars there was a soft top and a sporty one, IIRC, and I understand they were supposed to be tidy handling cars, sharing underpinnings with the Pug 104.

    But, to your modern mass market car buying public, a Samba will be almost worthless.

    They say they want a grand for it, but i'd better be in better than new condition for that kind of money, which i doubt it is to be honest... Might go and have a look at it over the weekend if i can find some spare time!

    its basically a pug 104/citroen visa isn't it.... it woudl wann be mintier than a polo factory for a grand

    It's the same as a Peugeot 104 and Citroën LN, not the Visa. The Visa is basically mechanically the same as the Pug 205....

    For a grand it would want to be a tidy convertible or possibly the sporty job with the nice starfish-like alloys.

    Otherwise you'd be better off with a Pug 205. 1.1.

    even a mint 1.4 Rallye will get it tight to make the £1000 mark. For a lesser model.......mmmm.....anyway don't confuse old with classic. There are many old cars worth nothing (many classics that aren't worth a lot too). Other than for insurance purposes the word classic means a lot more about the car than the age. Having said that I would still buy a Samba Rallye at the right money.

    Ok Ok I have it bad for Fiat 127s.. have 5 of them :D
    That Samba would want to be perfect for a grand unless its a Rallye or a Convertible.

    Indeed, and perfect would want to mean "with full NCT", full service history and a full tank :-)

    ah the memories.... we had a VISA for 6 months... what a dash!
    we also had a 104 for about 12 months... kept cutting out on hills.

    I'd a Maestro that used to think it was overheating and would cut out; I think it was done via the ECU as a safety precaution. Interesting at 80 MPH in the outside lane of the M6.

    I too have an 80s thing going. Now, I've said it.

    If the Samba was absolutely mint, and if you like that sort of stuff, I wouldn't go past €750.

    Coming down from Shap on M6 I was doing a 110mph trying to stay on the tail of black Ferrari just to annoy him. I was in a borrowed Maestro.....

    (It was a MG 2 Litre EFi version - with go faster Paddy Hopkirk roofrack :D)

    The maestro turbo could fairly shift.

    The samba was an awful yoke - I'd much rather a diesel Visa. CAR magazine reckoned the diesel Visa was one of best B road cars at the time, punching well above it's weight.

    Ohh and being a big Renault fan :D you'll no doubt remember the fleet of unmarked Renault 18 Turbos that Special branch had in the Eighties! I think they lasted about 12 months before all had been written off!

    Now if you could find a mint 18 turbo it would surely have considerable rarity value :D or better still it's coupe brother the Renault Feugo Turbo!

    My dad had a fuego turbo back in the day, and blew it up!
    Actually come to think of it i've just realised what a nutter he must have actually been back then. He had at various times over the years a cavalier Gsi, a Mitsubishi galant VR4 turbo, the fuego, a R5 turbo, Peugeot 405 mi16 (or some go faster name like that), A granada 2.9, a scorpio cosworth, a saab 900 turbo, sierra GTE, Lotus sumbeam and various other hooligan machines. Never actually thought about that until now,
