Cheap acoustic guitar

    Hi,

Blackhorse Jr is looking to get an acoustic as his first guitar - he's very much a beginner, he's been playing bass for a while but not too much. The only acoustic I've ever owned was a Yamaha 12-string way back in the early 90s, I'm much more at home with electric guitars.

I want to get the lad something cheap that he can (and probably will) bash around a bit while he's learning, around €100 - €150, and so far I'm thinking of the Epiphone AJ-100. As it's his first guitar I want to get something new, rather than second-hand.

Any suggestions? I know how guitar players love to give advice on GAS, so I thought I'd throw it open to the board :D

Also where is the best place in Dublin to get a new guit at a reasonable price?

    Thanks!

I don't think €150 will get you a playable acoustic in dublin. You might be able to pick up something online though for that price. A badly made acoustic can really put people off learning to play as they can be very unforgiving on your fingers

QFT...mind you, i got a lovely Westfield acoustic about 4 years ago for €175...then again with price rises and what not, you might be talking €250+ for a playable guitar nowadays!

Surely the Epiphone is 'playable'? Better than others in that price range? I can adjust the setup myself if necessary.

It'd be a grand guitar....if you like it, buy it....cause as you said, you can adjust it yourself if anything seems off!
