Seriously i reckon most shows are half music and half reading out txts and emails on their "funny" topic.

Especially thinking of the Rick o Shea show.

    Easy job me thinks.:p

Phone calls, and even faxes. And postcards solicited the last time they covered said topic. Before phones were common and cheap to use, well, we had no local radio...

Yeah sometimes its fine, but that Ray D'arcy really gets on my wick! He really takes the biscuit when it comes to reading texts. He's not even funny, he just reads texts and himself and his mot laugh away to themselves. Why cant the pair of them just stay at home and read text messages and play cds in private, and leave radio presenting to someone with a bit of talent!?

Dont have the choice what station is on unfortunatley.

Cant help but think these type of dj s have it far too easy.

Go through the paper in the morning or trawl a message board (like this one even!) .Put the question/topic out there and then just sit back for the rest of the show reading out listeners witty remarks.

These days most stations (include RTE in this one) are run by people who text in to stations about this and that. There's too much credence given to the "Joe Public-Expert" rather than getting qualified people, people who know what they're taking about, on air but its too much trouble to go to! Instead stations go for the lowest common denominator once again.

From a radio presenters perspective, texts and emails are a godsend. They make life much easier and allow us to get instant responses to the topics being aired and give the show a more 'interactive' feel. Of course, this depends on the type of show in question, the quality of the texts or emails in questions, and the presenter not reading out just about every message from just about every Tom, Dick and Harry who's bothered sending any ould crap in in order to just waste some air-time...

If it's an easy job I challenge any of you to step up and see if you can do better than the ones already on air..

    I don't think so!!!

But yeah was wondering bout how they did cope without the auld text and internet things.. Whatever did they do? Maybe they used the newspapers and listeners may have communicated using the telephone!
