splendid.. time to search the back catalog

Thanks for that. Interesting. The only dumb thing about it is that the photo must have been taken in 2007. How stupid is that?? The year is not half gone yet!! 2006 would have made more sense as it would have all the seasons. I haven't started taking photos seriously yet this year. Damn, maybe there is something somewhere on my HD.

ah the wonders of an EXIF editor :D

Saw that comp a few days ago. But reading through the T's and C's it's another one of those picture-trawling schemes I think. By entering you give them non-exclusive rights to use your photos for whatever they want.

But having said that, the prizes are pretty good and I doubt I'd ever actually sell any of my pictures for even a grand!

Remember though, it can't be of a landscape but it can be of trees...

Not at all, compared to most to be honest. They are fairly standard. Some require you to sell your soul (moral rights). The copyright remains with you in this one though they can use your pic for promotion. That's fair enough considering the quality of prizes.

always a good idea to check if they mention who the judges are going to be; for example, there's usually a judge from the irish birdwatching association on the judging panel for the ESB competition, and the winners do show a bias towards photos of birds.

however, this could also be a bias on the part of the photographers, in terms of the numbers of photos of birds submitted.

not me. I sent all three in one email last night. BCC'd myself to make sure it had a good chance of getting through. No bounce backs for me. It was a 10MB email

Wasn't the limit 1.5-2megs per pic. Your sums don't add up M_stan,quick resend.

Looking at this again, wtf does the below mean ? Really unclear what the desired resolution should be or whether a filesize over 2MB excludes you. Personally I think they are trying to simply set the low end requirement rather than exlcuding files that are over these thresholds, but I've re-submitted again just in case.

Entries should be between 2,400 x 3,000 pixels or 1.5 and 2MB in size to ensure the photographs are of a high enough quality to exhibit.

In normal circumstances you'd assume that they'd ask for bigger sizes of the winners anyway....

Anyone receive a reply after submitting?
    I didn't :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,445 ✭✭✭bovril

they wrote back told me my photos were cr*p..

ah no, got no reply apart from a delivery report on my e-mail. I don't expect to hear back from them either, don't stand a chance of winning anything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

you dont know that.. if you're not in, you can't win as the fella says!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,567 ✭✭✭mloc

    can you send multiple entries?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,689 ✭✭✭shepthedog

I ended up sending them 3 emails with one entry on each and that seemed to work. Wouldnt say anyone will hear anything for a while..
Anyone here see any of their shots used on the weather over last wk? I would imagine they would contact people to let them know they would use their images.

I don't think they contact people at all :( You just have to remember to watch the news.It boosts their ratings I guess with all these photographers tuning in.....

Only a 1 week wait at least.Winners are announced on the 3rd of July.I don't have a chance of getting anywhere near the prize money but I would like a heritage card and it'd be nice to have your photo exhibited.I can always dream :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,547 ✭✭✭City-Exile

Even if the competition was limited to the talented folk of this board, I still wouldn't stand a chance but, I have never entered a photography competition before and it would be fantastic to get exhibited, so I submitted two.

It cost nothing and could be a bit of fun.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,653 ✭✭✭m_stan

Anyone can win. I also feel inadequate with my photography skills, but anyone can win.

I got no email reply. Don't expect one either.

Does anyone feel like sharing their submission ? Here are my three.

    Good luck everyone !

When they say, "All entries must be original photographs ...", do they mean that no photoshopping must have been done? I adjusted the exposure in mine. :o

Damn some of those are nice.If they have to be "original" photos I really am screwed.I did a lot of tweaking with levels.Anyway these were mine.

Thanks very much guys,I had about 5 minutes to photograph him(too scared to move I think) so I had some fun light painting :)

Some great shots in your blog Latchiko.I tried the cloud catching Riverpoint shot myself a while ago.Nowhere near as good as yours though.

M_Stan I spent about half an hour messing around with it before and I was lucky to get the image up :o I think I understand it now though.I just have to use instead of <A HREF>.I'll give it another go...

    EDIT:So simple.Ha I don't know how I didn't figure that out before

I was only half watching it but I think one of John's (Monasette / North Atlantic Skyline) shots flashed up at the start. I had a quick look for it but can't find it online - pink flowers in foreground, looks like it may have been taken in the Burren. Not sure if it was the TV3 or RTE weather though!
Some great shots in your blog Latchiko.
    Thanks! :D
