Wedges?

What combination of wedges do you use/recommend? Most sets of clubs only come with a pitching wedge as standard these days so you have to sort out your own sand wedge. A lot of people carry another in-between (gap) wedge also. Which different lofts do you carry?

I use a Pitching wedge and a Vokey 54. No sand wedge - I find the Vokey is grand for bunkers.

    copper titleist 52*
    vokey 54*
    cleveland rusty 60*

thinking of picking up a 56 vokey to replace the 54.

Any particular reasons for your selections? I have a 60 degree Titleist myself and a 54 degree McGregor along with the Callaway PW that came with my set. Apparently it is ideal to have your wedges within 4/5 degrees of one another.

Yes the thinking behind that is that a PW is 48deg and a SW is 56deg (set used to have SW's as standard). People found it was a bit of gap from 48 to 56 so 'gap' were brought out. They're generally 52deg. And some people go for a Lob wedge, generally 60deg, or 64 deg

reasons... carrying just two woods means i can carry three wedges on top of my PW.

i never got a sand wedge with my set so i picked up the 54* vokey. i think this will be swapped soon for a 56* though as i feel i could do with a bit more height on my bunker shots. i think i'll keep the 54* as another option for certain courses though.

recently picked up the copper titleist 52* as i wanted something for around the greens, in between the pw and sand wedge. The feel off it is incredible and by far the best wedge i have ever played with. wouldn't swap it for anything.

the 60* is just a great tool to have in the bag. i maybe only use it once a round but its great to have if you have a hill between you and the hole or not much room to play with from a tricky spot when the green is above or below you.

Picked up a 52* myself this year, the reason being that I frequently seem to find myself in and around the 115yd range on approach shots. This is too long for my SW and too short for a full PW...

Anyway, got the GW and am moderately happy with how it's filled the gap (no pun intended) distance wise but a huge unexpected bonus is, I absolutely love chipping around the green with it. I just have tremendous feel with it and snap my chip shots much more consistently.

Funny, because I rarely, if ever, would chip with my PW or SW - more likely to run an 8iron, prod one in with my Rescue or try flop a LW so this turn of events has been most welcome...

no doubt about it, a good wedge that you are comfortable with, can save you a good few shots every round. Its a great feeling hitting a chip and seeing it check up before running up next to the pin. even better if it pops over the edge and into the hole!

52 degree vokey gap wedge which i find slots in perfect below the pw from anything under 110 yards for me... perfect 100 yrd carry from my 'full' shot but can squeeze a little more from if I have to. That said, wedges are all about accuracy so don't like leaning on it too much.
I would almost always use this club from +30 yards too unless I felt the need to fly it onto the green when I'd use my Cleveland 60 degree lob wedge.
I always use the 60 degree from greenside bunkers too (sucessfully), only ever using the gap from 50yrd + bunker shots, of which I dont often have (luckily!).
Aroung the green I'd tend to chip with a 9 iron mostly or the 52degree depending....

Interesting. I have the PW from my Titleist 704's and a 56* Vokey SM. If it's at all windy from 100 yards in, I prefer to grip down on my PW and punch that in rather then play the 56*. May just have a look at the 52*.

Thinking of ditching my 3-iron as well in favour of a hybrid, so could be an expensive month coming up!

    i have a gap wedge (52), sand (56) and lob (60).
Very seldom use the sand wedge, but use the other
    two a lot..
