I have not touched my scooter in a week as was on holidays. I get back tonight and I cannot get it going either by Kickstarting it or the automatic choke. It is not totally dead but not turning over at all. Can anyone advise how I fix this ASAp AS i need it to get me to work tomorrow. many thanks it is a suzuki Katana 50cc

Sounds like your battery is dead. It'll need recharging.

Could it just be wet from all the rain? The brake light is coming on ok and the automatic starter is working a bit- how can i recharge it?

Have you tried holding open the throttle while kickstarting it?
Used to work for my scooter and I had to kcikstart that for months before I bothered to replace the battery

Could be wet alright, if you know where the sparkplug is then take her out and dry it.

Yep have been opening up the throttle which used to work when idle for a while. But it used to not work at all and then you would eventually get a splutter - I am getting the splutter but not turning over. My old battery was gone for ages and used to be able to kickstart it. This battery is only a few months old

well the indicators are still working so I take it the battery is working. Don't know where the sparkplugs are though. Anyone know a way to get a bike to the shop if I need to as too far to push?

It's the battery. Try recharging it fully. The lights will work even if there's a little charge left. It may have power to turn the starter but not enough to turn it fast to start with the plugs firing. If you keep trying to start with a low battery you risk fouling the plug which you'll then need to clean. If it's 12 Volts you should be able to get a charge from a car safely but ensure it's 12V otherwise you'll fry the bike.

Probably too late now. But check your insurance policy and see if they've got a recovery service included.

I pushed a bike from Stillorgan to East Wall once, the wife looked at me like I was a fooking idiot and told me I'd break down recovery on my policy!.

they go like that if there left for a while. the only way to start them is to kick it about 20 times continuosly with the throttle closed. it will start just takes a good few kicks.

Well all sorted now, I am a member of the AA for the car I gave them a ring not really thinking they cover scooters, turned out I was. they sent someone out he could not fix it but he did tow it to the Bike shop for me :) Turned out needed new spark plug and some rubber hose around fuel hose was cracked but now working as good as ever :D
