Entered a tournament out of curiosity, its 9 handed. What would be a reasnable starting hand selection? I just read the rules here...http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/games/razz/

Lol and Mike said he's never seen you play a hand badly.;)

Very basic rule in Razz is if your hand pairs throw it. If you hit trips throw it... You kind of play it ok until you hit your third ace as he's showing a pair of fours.But I would have folded as soon as I hit my pair. I also never play a hand unless the first three cards are below 8. He played poorly and got lucky as he was dealt a pair.

When it's later in the tournament J high can win... but early doors anything below 9 high is generally no good.

I havent read much into it but I have done ok anytime Ive played it just betting when Ive the best hand and giving up when I go behind. Also raise any low card in position especially later stages.

I would never fold HJs hand after the ace pairs.

We have AA257 vs xx447. In a very worst case scenario our opponent has A2447. Folding Daraghs hand would be absolutely awful as we are ahead of a huge range of hands. On 6th street the villain probably has a T low but its likely that any 3, 4 6, 8, 9 or T would give us the winning hand. On 7th street the pot is so big that calling with a jack low is a must as our opponent will have double paired or be bluffing enough to make a call profitable.

I think the whole hand is fine although I might 3bet on 5th street.

I had 24k and brought it in. A guy in LP raised showing a three, I called with the intention of continuing if I got a 6 or lower. Should I of just folded?

Only comment is that you have to raise the river there. I'm raising on 5th and 6th aswell

i dont like leading on fifth street here..neither of yous have a made hand i know but he is showing a far stronger draw than u, 7,4 (with 2probable lows hiddin)beatting 7,5..check call would of saved u a bet and call on river with J low??? dont win often!! certainly not wen his raise on third street shouts 3 to the lo and although the 10 on 6th street dont loook like a strong card for him its a monster wen u are playing trip aces...only my opinion now..

Yeah i agree about leading out, on the river im getting 10:1 or something so I really dont like passing

(24)K is not a good hand because your opponent always knows your hand is weak. If you have (K2)4 your hand is more disguised, you can always steal with this kind of a hand.

The main thing that dictates how loose/tight you should play is the ratio of the ante to the small bet. I don't think you should defend (24)K against a LP 3 unless the antes are very big.

Boo, only razz hh here ever and I missed it. No point in my commenting on the hands now I suppose, but if you want to learn razz get Sklansky on Poker, in it is the old Sklansky on Razz material which is out of print. Other than that, see you on the 30/60 Stars razz table in a couple of weeks HJ
