I'm surprised they don't use a large format Sinar with 6x4 scanback or even a Medium format with digital chipset because the resolution and lens properties on an SLR doesn't have the capacity you can get with a larger camera.

It would appear to be a significant trade off on quantity of images and speed of image capture over image and optical quality. As we all know from using photoshop the less you need to do it makes it a better commercial proposition. Finally, better the initial images it require less manipulation work to stitch them together later also it should therefore reduce the final cost.

also, they wanted massive resolution. which is achievable with a long lens - i.e. a small field of view - on an SLR; such long lenses on a MF camera are not so readily available.
