Are you installing the software as an administrator. Works usually for me.

Good catch but what a stupid error.

You would think Adobe would check these things. Can't believe they did not test the installer as Administrator under Vista.

    Weird.

I think the underlying problem here is that when you make your user account an Admin account in Vista, it really isn't a full Admin account.

It's another security feature of Vista, it wants you to believe you have full Admin rights when in fact you only have a little more rights then a limited account & definitely not the full Admin rights.

The installation of Adobe Acrobat Reader v8 is a good example of this because its installer is set to allow the install if the user has FULL Admin rights, now once a user sets their account to Admin they assume that they have FULL Admin rights when in fact they don't really. It's not like XP.

Anyway, here are the instructions which will turn on FULL Admin rights for your Vista account.

Vista Administrator Account, Enable & Disable.

    Open the RUN command box.

    Type cmd & hit OK

    Close the command window.

This will cause Vista to put the Command line on the start menu as a recently used program.

Right click the command prompt icon (From the START Menu)

Choose RUN AS ADMIN from the options.

Type the following at the command line prompt to turn ON the Administrator account.

    Net user administrator /active:yes

Type the following at the command line prompt to turn OFF the Administrator account.

    Net user administrator /active:no

    Restart your machine.

You will now have the FULL Admin user account icon at startup.
