    Hows it going!

Heading to Leopardstown tomorrow evening, never been to the races before, I had a look at the runners and didnt recognise any horses.

Just wondering if any of you guys had any suggestions on who to back in any of the six races? I'm not a horse gambler by any stretch so i would really appreciate any suggestions/tips anyone might have.

    Cheers

The Leapordstown evening meetings are usually at the lower end of the scale in terms of quality racing with the odd exception. Haven't looked at the card but there is usually no stand-out horse so best advice for a first-timer would be to enjoy the action (you'll love it, was never into racing myself until I went to one of thise Miller meetings with work a few years ago) and have a few beers. Don't be worried about trying to win a fortune, these meetings are tough to pick. Just have a laugh, stick to small bets, a fiver or tenner a race and go for horses that you like the sound of (eg girlfriend's name) or listen out for the occasional whisper.

I know all that's not very helpful but the whole aim is to enjoy yourself and coming home even is always good :D

PS A good bet to do is the jackpot. It's fifty cent and the pool tonight is ten grand minimum. Winnings depend on how many people win it even if about fifty come up trumps, that's still €200 for a fifty cent stake. You try and pick the winners of races three to six and can pick more than one horse oer race but obvioulsy this increases your stake exponentially. Ask at the Tote counters, the staff are uslaly quite helpful and will be more than happy to tell you what to do. They're used to dealing with people who would usually not have a bet

    Anyways, enjoy!
