Data Recovery on Mac

Can anyone recommend any decent data recovery software for Mac? Someone I know trashed a bunch of files and needs to get them back... I've never had much luck with retrieving files in the past, so I was wondering if there is any magic piece of software out there these days. Thanks.

Someone asked me this last week and I didn't have an answer, then found File Salvage http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=1

does the job nicely. Not free im afraid, but not exactly expensive either!
