A mate from work was showing me his new Cyfrowy Polsat reciever he brought back from Poland and let me play about with it for a bit

    Some observations

    1) Sky boxes are manufactured to Order wheras a Polsat box is an an ordinary reciever (Samsung in this case) with Nagravision CAM and what appeared to be Polsats EPG software loaded onto it
    2) There are only two packages basic (about £2 per month) and full (about £5 per month). Skys basic package starts at £15 -maybe I should learn Polish
    3) On the other hand Polsat only has about 50-60 Polish language channels Sky has hundereds of English channels but most of the difference can be put down to Shopping channels, Religion, Gambling, Texting Channels and other mindless crap
    4) The favorites menu in Polsat is a lot better than Sky. One can add as many channels as one wants and put them in any order they like
    5) Polsat uses the Hotbird satellite which is also used by non Polsat channels but the Polsat EPG does include non-Polsat FTA channels albeit at the higher end of the list with programming details limited to now/next
    6) When flicking through the channels the EPG banner does include transponder details (Frequency Polorisation and name of satellite)
    7) The EPG starts at "1" rather than "101"

On the other hand there doesnt seem to be any law in Poland requiring the main national terrestrial channels to have preferential EPG slots. As a result Polsat 1 and Polsat 2 occupy the top slots and the TVP channels are fairly low down the EPG (in the 50's)

ADDS: Cyfrowy Polsat dont enjoy the near-monopoly that $ky have in satellite TV over here in that there is also Cyfra Plus.pl/
