yes once again..Phil Hellmuth is in the last ten players of the 3000 NL holdem tourney..if he makes the final nine he will be tied with TJ Coultier for all time final tables (39)..i think this makes him his 60th cash at the WSOP and it is beyond me how someone can be so good to outlast fields the size he has in tournaments where it can be a lot of luck at times and make 39 final tables..this is the first tournament he's played since getting the 11th and he's right back in the last ten players again

it'd be cool if he got another one

No one can come on here and say Hellmuth is a bad player or that they are better than him anymore or any of that crap. You cant argue with results.

Fair play to him I say.

If it wasn't for luck he'd win every time.
    Just ask Phil. ;)

I'm loving his run this year, he's a great tournament player, and with this years success it'll hopefully breath new life into the TLS syndrome crowd and hopefully it'll make a huge comeback. As said you can't argue with the results, PH is great at what he does but there's not many in the World can do the same and all these weak tight nits should become invigorated to really hold onto their TL even more so than before... :D

What is this Tournament Life Syndrome syndrome that you speak of?

Also, imagine the hissy fit if he gets knocked out of this one? He is entertaining, both a knob and a good watch at the same time. He does have some record though. Fair play to him.

tut, tut, tut.... haven't you heard of the latest cutting edge 2+2 theorem about worrying about worrying about your Tournament Life.... Maybe I'm too far ahead of the game here...

    [Puts Mod hat on]

Back on topic please, nothing to see here, get back to talking about how great PH is or isn't, whichever side of the fence you sit on.

[Mod hat removed and curses 5Starpool ]

dont think there will be a hissy fit if he is knocked out of this one.

    he is fairy short stacked.

fair play to him. he has some record though.

I see you missed my point completely.

This thread has all the Hellmuth related debate one could ask for (and some of the silliest and highly non - sensical arguments I have ever seen):

    http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=10754165&page=4&fpart=all&vc=1

    I threw the below up:
online MTTs dont have donks BTW. like if you play a 500+50, or a 200+20, chances are, all 1 or 5 thousand players are amungst the best players in the world.

This is not the case w/ 1500 or 2500 or 5k or even 10k$ events in the WSOP, b/c about 80% of the field is amateur at best.

Well, the big paying Sunday MTTs every week are full of dead money. And the two super sats tonight on Full Tilt and Stars will be donkalicous. And they will provide about 100 players or so who are dead money in the main event an all - expenses paid lottery ticket to Vegas. Running well for an 11-hour stretch is a pre - requisite to winning an event like the Sunday Million.

But yes, the best MTT players in the world can be found on the interweb. The ME of the WCOOP will be a much tougher top to bottom field than the ME of the WSOP. And a lot of the best in the online world are underage to compete in Vegas at the moment.

What are we really talking about in this thread?

    - Are large MTTs massively variance heavy? Yes.
    - Does that variance increase in direct correlation to the amount that enter? Yes.
    - Just because a 2600 runner tournament is higher variance than a hypothetical 100 player one with the toughest tournament players in the world - does it make it a better achievement to come through the field FTW? No.
    - Does winning one tournament make you a good poker player? No.
    - Does winning a few tournaments even make you a good tournament player? Probably not.

Look at Hellmuth's record though. He is not a lucky donk. He has been consistently profitable in MTTs his entire career. And even through the huge shifts of the last five years where the fields are getting bigger; the players at the top end are getting better (influx of the likes of Darrell Dicken, Gavin Griffen, Rizen, Justin Bonamo, Gobbo etc. going live); and the variance significantly greater - he still is a big winner over a decent sample.

There will be inevitably a lot of hate for a player like Hellmuth on this forum - particularly when that player has a very high opinion of himself and likes to let everyone know about it. Aba doesn't play tournaments. This site is full of players battling to increase their bankroll and move up cash levels. They play the big Sunday events with bingo like structures and are filled with hate when some terrible randomer hits a run of insane cards and cashes for huge sums. That colors the general opinions people have. lol donkaments, etc.

At this point, a solid argument can be made that Hellmuth has the best live NLHE MTT record of any player to date. The big live event circuit will get tougher over the next few years though. If he continues to own to this extent at that level over the next few years the scope for arguing against that assertion will be significantly diminished.

    Apparently Nicky OD is better.

he was quick to point out in an interview that he has not yet made the final table so his record isnt tied with TJ yet so i think his mind is on the record of final tables before even thinking about the bracelet..he knows himself he'll win the 12th at somestage at this rate i'd say

i returned from vegas last week where i had the pleasure of been down at the Rio 11 days of WSOP action. Phil Helmuth is a legend over there. The crowds that gathered around him where ever is went was amazing. Doyle Brunson was sitting just outside the tourney area alone, while 10 feet away phil was signing autographs and getting his photo taken by hoards of people. I watched him throughout his bracelet number 11 win and the man is a no limit god.
His record in no limit tourneys speak for themselves.
