this i guess is directed at the ps experts , elven and Al etc come to mind , just wondering would anyone be up for giving a PS introdutctory course on PS , understanding histograms, corrects use of layers , general PS basics .

I have stated to use ps a bit, but have no grasp of the fundamentals , and something like the Guy Rowan thing would be way over my head ..
theres probably a few like me , at beginers level , and rather than paying some outsider/institution, would anyone in boards be interested in doing a short introductory course for fellow novice boardies at the going rate ?

I'd be up for it, but won't be going far for a while. I have a tutorial or two in the digital darkroom, that go over what I've mentioned above, albeit a bit briefly.

There's a thread requesting tutorials in the Digital Darkroom too, request there too, or PM me. I have nothing better to be doing at the moment!

I'm happy to come along wherever and try to help people make a bit of sense of it all, if they want to hear my take on it. Just have to pick a date/venue and it'll start to get organised from there...

Can I come again? Maybe it'll sink in 5th time round...

I'd certainly be interested from the more experienced people on here. :)

Great , what about some evening somewhere , i guess city centre location would be best , i live dun laoghaire way , so not great , i wonder could we use a classroom in school or college , now that summer is here ? whatever tutors think is best . I don't mind ringing around once we get some ideas of where or when would be best .

Julie --it was that course summary you sent on that got me thinking .
    Thanks,
    B.

    A suggestion...

Why not do a virtual introductory course on something like GotoMeeting or VNC/Skype, where people can see and hear whats happening on the instructors screen?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭ThOnda

Count me in, please. I just need more specific information about place and time. I can go to pick up somebody (one person only).

That'd just make too much sense altogether... How nice would it be to have a weekly webcast of a technique previously outlined in the digital darkroom forum. All we need is someone to volunteer...

I'm sure he wouldnt! In fact I bet he will be quite chuffed that Julie would think he could give online tutorials from his bed, I mean sick bed!

didnt I ban you a while ago? :p

hehe im TRYING to come up with a scathing and witty response man... ugh, its 5.30 just about, and theres cameras to be sabotaged before "she who should not be named" gets in.

Actually... i might start a thread to discuss the effects photography has on a once-stable marriage. Maybe it requires a poll.....what lengths does a jilted husband go to to protect his relationship - does he

    A) sabotage photography gear,
    b) hide photography gear,
    c) post on photography forums and try to have wife ousted from social circle due to overwhelming embarrassment,
    d) all of the above,
    e) accept his fate and move on to a non-photographer 2nd wife (one who likes football and can never be caught photo-processing whilst driving and eating a sandwich at the same time)

its all important stuff here rymus... you shouldnt ban me - this is the only contact i actually HAVE with my wife cos of you lot. Youd only serve to kill the marriage stone dead good sir!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,741 ✭✭✭✭thebaz

wow this is a good start , one of the tutors is laid low and getting slagged off, the other one , is under orders , from an angry other half .... i just wanted to learn the ps basics , not break up relationships ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Calina

I'd be reluctant to go with the football loving second wife. Speaking as an observer, a lot of those footballers could be better looking than you. I'm not saying they are cos I've never met you, and of course, you could be Brad Pitt and George Clooney rolled into one for all I know. But even so...

all those athletic men...does a little something...I know I wouldn't like my second husband watching a lot of beach volley ball for example....

but I digress. Apart from video conferencing Al from his sick bed hasn't anyone any other ideas? I don't fancy trying to decipher Youtube vids and LM lives in town somewhere. Bandit country. I never venture in there when there's the least chance of getting lost.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Tbh O'Donnell, your wife would probably be better at football than your team! :D

(And for the record... Someone's not getting any tonight :D )

Well I could broadcast it...but it wouldn't be live. It'd probably be best wait until I'm better though. I'm in foul mood being stuck in bed all day.

Bedroom broadcasts can be so boring, eh Jools?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,584 ✭✭✭leinsterman

.... well Ed ... I probably should not say this but I know for a fact that it will not be the first time Jools was in bed with a load of men teaching photoshop ... seems to be something of a thing for her ... perhaps you should try it!!!;)

Ah you see - the joys of having an other half who actually *taught* you photography in the first place! Its all his fault! :D Hey Edward you should come along to the next meet. one of us, one of us... brains....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,040 ✭✭✭odonnell

damn....you people make my ass twitch (said in french grumpy accent)

to get some sort of OT about this thread (sorry for the blatant hijack), jools is actually very good at the whole "ok this is what that button does, and if you...NO DONT TOUCH THAT DIAL!"

problem is - it just goes waaaay over my head. If it didnt, and i had some morsel of knowledge (not just intrigue) - then maybe i could accept being a photography widower...

    But...yes.... PS Classes.... FTW!

You could always take up playing golf in retaliation ... looks like your missus would be very understanding about you spending entire weekends out in a field with 3 other men doing manly stuff like tapping a little white ball around with a big iron rod ...

    *ahem*

    Original topic, anyone...?

Simon, are you good for hosting then?

How many people are actually up for this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Well, for the mean time - Clicky

But yeah, I'm up for showing off some tricks.

Now, back to the innuendo. Or do we start a whole new Elven/Odonnell thread? It would be like comic relief...but free.

a bit of banter, a bit of innuendo - is a meagre price to pay for freedom of expression.

even when it DOES impede on ones marriage and personal commitments....

feel free to come to the fitba with me instead sinead!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,584 ✭✭✭leinsterman

Well I'd say we can comfortably fit 6 and at a squeeze fit 10 ... in my living room (god bless that L shape couch) ... but I guess this really means the issue is more about a number that will work from student / CSx Geek ratio perspective ... I'd suggest 6 (not including myself and Julie) ... but what do you think Julie ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,584 ✭✭✭leinsterman

... oh forgot to add on time ... during the week is probably better ... but there may be problems next week ... I have jury service ... and there is also the Aerosmith and Who gigs ... janey ... hope I'm not sequestered!!!

How about Weds next week on the underastanding that I don't end up in the Irish version of "12 Angry Men" ...

Anyways ... it gonna be simple for me ... Cork people , guilty - lock em up and throw away the key!!! .... if they are from the Southside then Guilty - take away their X5!!! ...
