Myself and some mates are thinking of going to South America for a month in Spetember.

We dont know what would be the best route and the cheapest route. Could anyon help us.

We were thinking of flying into Buneos Aires, then going to Montvideo and then to somewhere else. But we actually havent a clue and hence im doing some research. But seeing as we only have a month, we think that maybe flying into buneos Aires and out of another city will definetly be the best option.

Does anyone have any routes or whatever we could take?

Any advice would be excellent! Or links to good websites!

    Thanks!

Last flew into Rio and out of BA, cost approx €600 with Air France.
The route we took might suit as we had similar amount of time and had amazing time; we spent 3 days in Rio, then a few days on island of Ilhe Ghrande, then Iguazu Falls for 3/4 days and onto Salto (uruguay), montevideo, Colonia and few days in paraguay before finishing in BA.

If i was you i would go to town and go in and speak to trailfinders. I know a few lads who went in and went on a trip to south america. They can advise you on the best way to travel, flights and places to see.

Ye they can but i dont like them places, id rather book it myself and cut out the middle men and talior make it and get it cheaper.

I think flying into rio for a few days seems a good idea, but are internal flights in south america cheap? (Like i remember Air Asia were so cheap!!). Cos we could go from there to Buneos Aires and then onto Montvideo and then onto somewhere else?

Internal flights in SA don't tend to be cheap. They don't have low cost carriers there as yet.

In Argentina Aereolineas contol the skies, in Peru / Chile LAN ... there isn't as much competition AFAIR.

Buses tend to be the way to go.

BA is a great place - reserve a few days for it, with 4 weeks you'd be surprised how much you could fit in, but I think jackbhoys route is an excellent one.

Buses tend to be the way to go.

Agree with this. Used overnight buses for long journeys, they are incredibly comfortable (almost fully reclining seats) and really good value, just don't book the front seats as the drivers are lunatics and you are better not being able to see the road :) .

personally I'd stay away from Trailfinders, you are paying for something you can do yourself with a little effort. I'm sure lots of people have found them useful but my friends have had really bad experiences with them, made a complete balls of mates €5k honeymoon for one.
