Hello there all, I am sorry if this is a stupid question but I am new to this macbook, more used to my iMac to be honest. As the search funtion here doesn't seem to work for me i apologise if this has been asked before.

Is there anyway to stop the macbook from going to sleep when I close the lid?

I tend to leave my computer on while its doing something, or else it wouldn't be doing what its supposed to be doing :D but I don't see the point in having to leave the screen open...

    any help out there?

    InsomniaX should do the trick:

I'd recommend caution however as I'm not sure doing this is safe on a macbook. The heat could potentially destroy the screen.

EDIT: I did a quick google and Apple actually do say it's safe. The fans blow the heat away from the screen. Also if you connect up an external display, keyboard and mouse it will work without the above program.
