Ok, this is my first thread on the movie forum and I would like to start off by saying how much I hate the idea of favorites. Time, mood and everything else constantly alter any possible list a person could make.
So, having said that, at this moment in time if could only watch one movie from the following genres what would it be?

    Slasher movie?
    Scream 1

    Zombie movie?
    Shaun of the Dead

    Monster movie?
    Jeepers Creepers

    Romantic movie?
    ... Shaun of the Dead

    Cop movie?
    Hot Fuzz

    Comic Book adaption?
    The Hulk

    Revenge flick?
The Punisher (don't look at me like that.. remember the big Russian?.. he was fun..)

    Western?
    Tombstone/For a few dollars more

    Sports movie?
    Varsity Blues

    Mystery?
    The Usual Suspects

    Thriller?
    LA Confidential

    Musical?
    The Blues Brothers

    Comedy?
    Probably Hot Fuzz

Ok, that's it for me. In case anyone is wondering I'm coming down off a massive Spaced marathon. Just pick out the film you would like to see the most from each genre and list them! Feel free to add your own genres. Make them as obscure or vague as you like!
I fully expect this thread to fail, but who knows :p

List threads tend to be frowned upon.

This is a discussion forum... what purpose does endlessly listing off films have?

No one is even backing up their choices with any reasons.

I don't like lists like that. I say as much in the charter.

As MonkeyFudge said, your choice of movie should be supported by a reason here. Why did you "Hot Fuzz" as a cop movie for example? Why "The Hulk" for comic book adaptation - and so forth.

There's the kernel of an idea in here for a decent thread if it was done correctly. For example you could have a debate over "The Hulk" - you may think it's a good movie but that doesn't mean it's a good example of the comic book genre.

As it currently stands though, unless it shows some more meat, I imagine the thread will be shut down fairly quickly..

Ok - a list of films from various genres, with reasons.I hope this fulfils The Charter.
    Action?
Live and Let Die : So many things happen in this film - speed-boat chase, alligator farm shenanigans and so on. A very busy film that never lets you get bored.
    Horror?
Psycho: Wonderfully suspenseful and scary at the same time. Hitchcock's direction and the central performance by Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates are what make the film so good.

    Zombie or Monster Movie?
Dracula, Prince of Darkness : for Christopher Lee's fantastic performance - wonderfully sinister and evil as the Arch Vampire. A classic among Hammer Horrors, but fits into the Monster genre. Just proves, it can be hard to categorise.

    Romantic movie?
Shadowlands - touching story, made all the more so knowing it was true. Wonderfully romantic, moving and sad, without being cloying or over-sentimental. Also has some gentle humour in the film. Central performances by Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger are great.

    Cop movie?
Heat: Powerful story and direction by Michael Mann. Great cast, none more so than the two central protagonists played by Al Pacino and Robert de Nero. Gripping story.

    Thriller?
LA Confidential - Great story and great acting by Russell Crowe, Guy Pearse and James Cromwell. A very involved plot put together by Jim Hanson's direction, which works because of the pace of the film.

    Musical?
Tommy - Great Rock Musical by The Who's Pete Townsend with a story told completely in song. A rock opera affectively. Wonderful acting performances by Roger Daltrey, Keith Moon and Oliver Reed.Great music courtesy of The Who, Elton John and Tina Turner.

Comedy? [This more than most could change, depending on my mood!]
Four Weddings and A Funeral - Light-hearted, hilarious on a no. of occasions and full of many humorous characters - some small roles, some big. Suits Hugh Grant down to the ground, although it may have type-cast him. Is he delving into his own character? The whole film, I believe, is held together by the wonderful script of Richard Curtis. Like a book you keep coming back to.
    Drama?
The Shawshank Redemption: Wonderful story put together by Frank Darabont. Never a dull moment for such a long film. Great performances by the cast, but the real revelation was Morgan Freeman - major supporting actor as "Red" and the narrator as well. This device deployed by Darabont worked very well.
    Animation?
Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were Rabbit: Very funny, great character creations. Refreshing too that its not computer animated.
