With the European Open around the corner down in the K Club, what golfers can we expect to see showing towards the top? Anyone got their free tickets from Ulster Bank yet?

Yeh, my tickets arrived on Thursday last. Quite looking forward to it. I'll most likely try and follow Monty round. We Scots love a freebie!!

It would take about 10 minutes to get from Celbridge. I've gone since 1997 and honestly I don't remember any problems with traffic but I suppose it depends on when you come and go.

Do you need tickets for the Wednesday Pro-Am day or can you just show up at the gate? Can't find any info on the web about this

I'd say practise days are free but don't quote me on that. The ulsterbank free thursday ticket offer closed on 11/6. I only noticed this post today so missed out. Might still go down thursday or friday and pay in. Last year I got the free ulsterbank ticket but they weren't even checking tickets at all on the thursday. Not sure it will be the same this year though.

    hey folks,

just a couple of quick questions.

im getting a lift to the k club,is it possible to get dropped of in the car park or somewhere close to the course? also,is there a pedestrian exit for going out at the end of the day, where it would lead you to somewhere handy to be collected?

    thanks

seanieclarke - entrance is past the main entrance of K-Club and turn right (assuming you coming from straffan village)

The public car parks (3&4) are on your left immediatley opposite the entrance. Car parks 1&2 are media etc.

The easiest place to get a lift to and back from would probably to be left off in Straffan village. It would be about a 10 to 15 minute walk to the course from there.

thanks for the help everyone, especially Vince135792003.

whereabouts in the village? is it easy to find the course from there?
lastly,is the village handy to get to at the end of the day by walking out the pedestrian exit?

    thanks again

Ok, don't have much time to sit down and give exact directions but here goes....I'm assuming that the setup is not the one they went with for the Ryder Cup and that Joe Public is allowed pedestrian access into the village....

3 miles out on the Celbridge to Clane road, you will come to a large roundabout outside Barberstown Castle. Taking a left at this roundabout will bring you into Straffan village which is about 1 mile away. This roundabout is probably the best place to be dropped off/picked up as I doubt cars will be allowed into the village over the weekend.

Straffan village is basically just a square - church, pub, shop, green, etc. - as you enter the square, the course is at 2 o'clock, no more than 300 yards away as the crow flies. The shop is on your RHS. Walk by it, and then take the next right hand turn. Follow this (country) lane/road for about half a mile - notice the course on your LHS. The main entrance gate is further up this road on the LHS.

Man that K Club is some bog.
    Place is always water logged.
I played 18 holes yesterday at my local which isnt the best drained course by any means and it was very firm.

Trust me, once you get to the village you'll know where to go. Straffan village is literally a church, two pubs and a petrol station. You won't get lost. From the village its just a fairly straight walk up. It'll be sign posted.

I wouldn't be around Straffan at all only for the European open once a year. I also wouldn't say I have the best sense of direction. So you'll be grand.

Don't think you can travel the usual Celbridge-Clane road as its closed, that means you either take a detour via Maynooth and back on to the roundabout that was mentioned or else take the left before the bridge in Celbridge (visually its not left but straight ahead) if your coming from Dublin/Lucan direction, if that makes any sense. Follow the 'Detour' signs, all 2 of them i.e. 1."Detour this way" and 2. "End of Detour"
