Anyone notice the poll on the right of the RTÉ News website? I'm no prude, but I'm not sure I approve of the tone and language used in the poll, even if I do agree with and voted for the 3rd option.

Anyone else feel that this is unbecoming of the national public service broadcaster?

Another example of the strange 'loose-limbed/brained' approach that the National Broadcaster is taking with thier web presence.

Has it been removed? There's a RTE.ie Interactive Poll heading and then below it the icon to watch the 9 news [no poll]

    Yep, that's the one.

I can't see the BBC doing something like that. Have RTÉ hired a load of tabloid journos recently or something? A lot of their online news content seems like it's written by 16 year olds.

I just don't think RTÉ should be airing it's opinion on news stories and referring to the three sailors as 'eejits' is not something any national broadcaster should be engaging in.

Have the lunatics taken over the asylum in RTÉ or what?

For me the poll's not there.

Well it's not their opinion, it's just one of the options available for people to give as their own opinion

I do agree that it's a stupid poll, though, and one that's far too tabloid for my liking.
Online polls, when treated as the unrepresentative novelty that they are, can be a good little side-show for websites. I don't think this is much of an example of that, though.

I thought for a second that they'd seen sense and taken it down, but sadly not.

It's still there for me. Are you using an ad blocker or something that might block it? Try a different browser. Anyway it's in the screenshot Cremo posted.

Yeah fair enough, but RTÉ still saw fit to brand the sailors 'eejits' as a poll option, or should I say they created the option for people to brand these people as eejits. Either way, I still don't think RTÉ can be excused. In fact all of the other poll options have a derogatory condescending air to them. I expect a better standard from them.

How would you rate Tony Blair's time as Prime Minister?
    So-So
    Best British PM ever
The Iraq War is a stain on his legacy
    Dreadful
    Jolly good

RTÉ need to decide exactly what kind of editorial line and image they want on the news section of the website and then stick to it. Badly-worded polls like this stuck on to the side of serious articles are inconsistent and bring down the whole news section.
