Yes, you will loose access to O2.ie and as your email address is linked to your mobile number for management purposes then you will loose that too.

You could always ring O2 and plead your case, but I don't see them bending over backwards for someone who's leaving them. You could always try and get a new Speakeasy SIM and then ask O2 (try data support 1850601740, I'd say they're the best to speak to) to link your email address to that - then you'll just have to use the SIM once every 6 months to keep your account active.

of course you'll lose the email address, why on earth would a company supply you with a service if you leave them for another network?

Strange, I got my first O2 number (billpay) in 2003. With this number i've created an online account and created an email address like name@o2.ie. In 2004 i have not renewed the bill pay contract. Since then I'm not on the O2 network anymore. Lo and behold: now in 2007, almost 4 years later, I'm still using this O2 email address. I still have POP3 access and it became my standard mail address.

Mine worked until they updated their website about 18 months ago. I had moved onto Gmail anyways, so was no biggie.
