    Hi,

As a well-travelled surfer I'm looking to get a secure, waterproof case to enable me to use my digital SLR in and around the water.

I've come across a UK-based company called Aquapac who manufacture a product that seems to be what I'm looking for (direct link to product doesn't work as session times out)

Has anyone had any experience with Aquapac or could anyone recommend a good reasonably priced (i.e. no more than €200) waterproof case for an SLR?

    Go raibh maith agat/agaibh!

a few surf folk her might be able to assist you, but for those sorta cases, you can get alot cheaper ones, are you just looking for storage or to be able to use it?

I need something that will actually allow me to use the camera while in the water. Housing might be more appropriate but it tends to be a bit unwieldy/bulky and almost impossible to come across (I feel your pain).

I prefer the idea of a soft case which is what Aquapac are offering. Take a look at the SLR camera case on the above site (click rest of world>camera etc etc). It's available for around £20/€30 cheaper at http://www.7dayshop.com.

I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has actually used aquapac's case or something similar.

also the lens will be looking through a plastic case, will ruin the shots

Good point. Just looks like I'll have to continue the search and stick to using those disposable underwater cameras for the action shots.

    Oh well:(

I looked at the aquapac unit for myself (I do kitesurfing shots) and discarded it as an idea because it was severely limiting in terms of the lens you could use and also I had grave doubts about the quality of the pictures through the cover.

i think you'll need a housing. talk to paudie...he's the man.

Yer, Paudie is the lad....but I doubt he'll be posting here for a while....his $$$$ case leaked and salt water did what salt water does to cameras......
I'd try find a second hand Nikonos V or something like that, but I'd be very wary of buying something designed for use in water second hand.

Other than that I'd try for a water proof P&S....but in my experience water will win in the end. No matter how much money you throw at this problem you'll be pulling your hair out eventually :)

Oh damn, I never knew that happened.

OP, on that subject, I have an article by Alex Jowett on the subject of watersports photography and in it, he made the point that in general, if he was shooting from within the water, he preferred to use a film camera because he had destroyed three digital cameras in casings already. He uses a Canon A2 if he goes swimming in the surf to take photographs.

Hmm. Might be worth thinking about. I suppose it wouldn't be the best idea to risk your pride and joy for the odd water session.

Thanks to all those who took time to reply.
