Just played the first 2 missions in Brothers With Arms and I have to say its excellent.

The controls are very like Metroid Hunters, using the stylus to aim, choose weapons etc... the dpad to move and L to shoot. Its very Gears of War-esqe with a 3rd person view that you can change to first person when you're stopped and a cover and lean system (only played gow briefly but as far as I can tell its pretty similar). Your character feels very cumbersum to move around (which again is similar to gow) but it adds to the gameplay rather than takes anything away. The grenade system is also excellent, pressing the grenade button and getting an overhead view of the target area and then moving the stylus to the exact spot.

The flow of the game is very much stop and start. You and your squad move through various towns and landscape coming across various squads of Germans and which point near cover is always available. You get into cover, pop the enemy, then move on. Rinse repeat. You also come across various tanks you need to destroy with the conveniently placed rocket launcher, or jump into an MG nest and mow the approaching enemy.

Apart from the obvious GoW similarities its pretty much like other WWII shooters with a good deal of scripting and the usual shouts of "Covering fire!" from your sergeant. Graphics wise it looks very very rough, but thats to be expecting and imo it looks awesome for a DS game (looks better than MP:H and theres alot more happening on screen), you do get the occasional lag ingame but I think this is disguised by the cumbersum movement system.

A good few bugs, but overall an awesome achievement on the system and a fun game to play.

I played this earlier and i wasn't blown away. Games like this just don't translate well to a handheld.

Granted there's some nice ideas; the stylus contol is very effective and the cover system reminds me a bit of Rainbow Six Vegas but above all its so jittery and messy that i found it impossible to get into it.

Just after giving it a go. Didn't think much of it at all. Quite let down to be honest. The controls just aren't up to scratch. Didn't come across as being enjoyable to play.
