    Hi,

Once I'v taken off all I need, how do I restore to factory settings to wipe off all programmes, files etc?

Put in the CD/DVD for your OS. Then go to Applications/Utilities/Disc Utility, select the 'Erase' tab and the volume. If necessary, restart while holding down Cmd+C to start from the OS CD/DVD install disc and reinstall the OS.
