I’m working a good job now for 3 months. It will look great on the cv and pay is good. However, I hate it and want to leave and move back to Ireland (I’m in the UK). I’m making up some CV’s to jobs in Ireland and don’t know whether to put this job down. Is it worth putting down due to the great experience and status of the job, or just not putting it on my CV as it’s such a short time period and cause interviewers to ask questions and think I’m unloyal/uncommited or something?

I would put it down if it's the only short term job and come up with a creative excuse

I worked as a recruitment consultant for a good while and I would definitely say yes put it down. There's nothing worse than gaps on a CV (unless of course you lie about the length of previous jobs to fill that gap - that's worse!)

You're in a perfect position to answer the 'why did you leave your last job' question. Just say you had 'personal reasons' to return home closer to your family. They won't ask any more.

Good luck in the job hunt.

Definitely agree - I can't see any issues with you saying that you would like to move home, it would completely explain why you are only there for 3 months.

Thanks for the relplies lads. Im going to give a months notice anyway i reckon which will stretch it out to 4 months.I could also change a month on the cv and it could become 5months which wouldnt be to bad looking. At least it would show I gave it a good go. Is it a really bad idea and easily found out if i put an extra month or 2 down (well 1 only I wouldnt want to push it!)
Considering I was in the job before my last 1 for 5 years and the job before this a year, i dont think i should have any problems with only having 3 or 4 months on the CV

Personally I wouldn't bother lying - it's not as if you are looking for a job in the same location, in which case you'd probably have to explain why you want to leave. Saying that you want to move back home is a perfectly valid explanation, even if you really enjoyed the job.

If you do put the job on your CV, your new employer may expect your last job to provide a reference (which may be another thing for you to worry about if you aren't enjoying it there). But if they will give a reference, you could get tripped up on your dates.

I really don't think it's worth the lie - as I said, saying you want to move back home is more than enough explanation why you are only there 4 months.

My CV looks like a block of swiss chese with all the holes in it. I can offer reasonable excuses for all the holes of course (a lot of temp work, contracts etc.). I have rarely been asked to explain in interviews why there are so many gaps, some employers seem to understand that permanent jobs simply aren't always on offer (the type of work I was doing was call centres/admin). Would the presence or absesnce of gaps then have different bearings in different sectors/types of work?

As long as you can explain your reasons you'll be fine. If you lie you might get caught out down the line somehow.
