Just passed my bike test a few days ago and looking to send off my application form. Rang the motor tax office in Dublin (the one in smithfield) to find out how long it would take via post and got some poxy message saying there is currently a 3 week backlog of motor tax and driving forms applications!

Anyone know if it is three weeks even if I go into the office? or only if I post it in?

On a secondary note - how do you get 3 weeks behind? there can't be that many can there?

In my case, I posted it in a few years back. Got it back IIRC within 2 weeks.

What do you expect to gain by having the licence back quickly? Getting the insurance rebate?
How valuable is your time? I'm a contractor, so cost of going to tax office is 1.5 hours plus say 1.5 travel time, charged at 50 an hour. I'd want to be getting back a lot more than 150 quid in rebate to make it worth my while as there is disruption in getting time off, etc.
