Contract not returned by landlord!

    Can someone clarify this situation?

Moved into a house with 2 others start of May. It is through an agency
I wanted out (4 weeks later) so gave written notice to the agency of 4 weeks and moved out. I have continued to pay the rent for this 4 weeks but they are saying that I have to find a replacement or pay the rent for the next 11 months.

However we signed the contract and the never received a signed copy back from the landlord. We've asked the agency repeatedly and keep being told - we don't have it back yet??!!

If we haven't received it back within 4 weeks is it valid?
If not then I am free to walk and entitled to my deposit back? (or am I pushing my luck)

Thank a million for any advise possible

It only matters that the landlord has a contract that you signed. That is enough to enforce.

However if the agency / landlord don't have it .....
