Just wondering as I've never experienced this before. I received my Bell m9 from RSOV this week. It came with two magazines. Both were full of gas. It would have been shipped airmail. Isn't this dangerous? Could it damage the gun?

I have seen on many sites that they will not ship gas by airmail under any condition. In saying that the Glock 18 I got from Firesupport had gas in the mag when I got it.

I think if the cargo hold in the plane is pressurised like the rest of the plane it is OK up to 30,000ft. Any higher and the gas may expand and possibly damage any container its in, can, mag whatever. Not all aircraft have pressurised cargo holds so the websites don't take the risk.

That's what concerned me alright. The pressure of the gas at that height might have damage the seals on the mags. I haven't really had a chance to use it properly yet so I don't know.

    Should say something to Keith.

Airlines do not allow this at all. It's considered hazardous material and requires specialised packaging (reinforced)

Not sure about damage to the mags. I assume that if the pressure got high enough, the gas would just leak out.

I'd say the mags have a much higher pressure tollerence than we use. The pressure difference at 30k ft, could be nasty. I beleive mags should not be stored pressurised or left charged for a long time so i doubt it can be good for them. Say its kinda like leaving an AEGs spring compressed. My M9 had a tiny bit in it when it came, but wasnt full.(He(Airsoft Scot.) tests them before sending).

Yea my Bell came with enough gas for two rounds from each mag and the hfc gave me nearly 2 mags full but i think its really quite harmless

How could it be quite harmless? It's not allowed for a reason.

Are you sure its gas and not air which had a pressure build up on the flight? For example if one brings a bag of crisps which are air sealed on a flight while in the air it can expand significantly in size.

Its a long shot, but i've heard of stranger things

I think the air would have depressurised on the way down though so that may not work.
It is odd that the mags were filled with gas though. Did you contact the seller?

Interesting theory Ironwolf. Only one problem with it though. Compressed air doesn't smell like green gas :D

Miscreant, I just wanted to check with people to see if this was common practice with RSOV before I mention it to him. I've never ordered anything gas powered from him before.

Taken from th Dublin Airport website. I highlighted the part about gas cylinders:

For safety reasons, there are a number of items that cannot be taken on any aircraft, so please do not pack them in any luggage (carry-on or check-in):

    Flammable liquids and solids
    Oxidisers, such as bleaching powders
    Organic peroxides
Tear gas devices or any gas cylinders
Infectious substances, such as live virus materials
    Wet-cell car batteries
    Magnetrons
    Instruments containing mercury
    Instruments containing magnets
    Fireworks
    Non-safety matches
Fire lighters, lighter fuel, paints, thinners
    Poisons, arsenic, cyanide, weedkiller
Radioactive materials, acids, corrosives, alkalis, caustic soda.
    Creosote, quicklime, oiled paper
Vehicle fuel system components that have contained fuel

Best case is they are ones that were QC'ed and the gas wasn't evacuated afterwards, worst case is they are returned used product. I'd suggest a email as the last thing you want is an issue because the authorities see pressurised items being shipped to you.

    !!
That would explain the longer than usual delivery time.

Although, it never appeared to be in customs while I was tracking it. Maybe they covered their tracks...
