My better half & myself have a week off in august together & are not that pushed about where to go, I have been looking around & greece looks nice enough for about €500 each. But, should I book now or should I wait till the very last minute & (hopefully) get a good deal?

as I said we are not that pushed about where to go, does anyone have expierence of booking last minute? if so what kind of deals should you expect? & I realise that is probably the peak of the season, will there be much left?

sorry mods if I have this posted in the wrong spot, move if you wish.

You might get a good last minute deal, you might not.

Generally I tend to favour the latter. Late deals tend to the places other people don't want to stay in..

Depends if you're looking for a sun holiday package or not.

If you just want a week away and are booking it through Budget Travel (or any of the others), you'll definitely get it for cheaper than €500 if you wait. You mightn't get anyof the Greek islands, and you probably won't get a choice of accomodation but you probably wouldn't have to pay over €250 for it (each)

If you avoid the builders holidays (I think they are the first two weeks of Aug) you should get a good last minute Sun holiday deal. I did this last year and ended up in Cyprus. A lot of the really cheap deals are allocation on arrival, so you wouldn't know your accommodation in advance....

I booked a late holiday in Bulgaria yesterday through Budget Travel. Going on 2nd July - I was charged 30 euro 'late booking fee'.

Theres loads of last minute deals around, try holidaysonline.ie, budget travel are a bit hit and miss. Me and the gf booked 2 weeks in Zakynthos for €314 each all inclusive self catering last saturday, leaving tonight... The same thing would be about €700 booked a month or two ago... Theres always last minute deals if you dont mind where you go. We're staying in Tsilivi, the hotel is a good 1km out of the town (bit remote) but 4 stars still... Have a look at what late deal offers are available now, it'll give you an idea of what to expect,

    Good luck!

Booked a last minute deal last year in crete about 3/4 weeks before we went (around 18th august i think). We paid around 440 each and the place was LOVELY - so much nicer than that of some people we met who had paid around 700 because theyd booked it a few months before.

It can work out well, it can work out crap. When you find a potential deal have a look on
    tripadvisor
& see what previous guests thought of the place before you book :)

And if you want to book last minute and don't mind where your going then do it from september on, it means if your booked into a big resort you won't have loads of kids around!
