    Love them!

I started with CODY and it is still my favourite, although Young Team is close. Subsequent albums don't do it for me as much as those two.

"Dial: Revenge" (duet with Supper Furry Animals singer) on Rock Action is one of my favourite songs ever. Beautiful, beautiful......

Has anyone seen them live ?

    ME TOOOOOO!!!!!!:)
What about Folk Death on Mr Beast, kicking tune altoghether... they are just amazing, best band at managing to create sonic lanscapes in their songs... went to see them in the *******, god it must be 8 or 10 years ago now?? Oh and one other time more recently maybe 3 years, they are just as good live if not better.

I like them a lot but as far as post rock goes I prefer Slint,Bark Psychosis and Talk Talk

I kind of lost interest in them since Happy Songs. Good band but I think they're just going through the motions now.

I like some of their stuff but they do seem to follow a pretty predictable formula a lot of the time, which results in a lot of songs that sound almost interchangeable.. I suppose that's the trap with that style of music.

I know people tend to classify all of that stuff together but I think 'post-rock' must be one of the loosest genre terms around.. is there really that much in common between Mogwai and for example the later Talk Talk albums?

While they both sound different I dont think the term post-rock is unappropriate for either band.

First heard them in the summer of 1996, appropriately enough it was the Summer 7" that got me into them.

The first two LPs rocked, after that it's been good but not great.

Saw them live twice. Whelans in 1999 and Electric Picnic last year.

Havent heard much of their stuff, but I do know that Take Me Somewhere Nice was the last song to make me cry. (bus journey on the way home from somewhere having received terrible news).

Any songs similar to this one?

For Satin was good, and bits of Young Team, still have a soft spot for Christmas Steps on that album that came after, what's its name, but after that they went seriously downhill for me. Saw them once at ATP, and more exciting was seeing Aidan Moffett dancing in the bar afterwards.

    Love Mogwai.

Saw them last year in a real small venue and it was absolutely amazing, would just about make it into my 10 top gigs ever. Seeing them again next weekend, can't wait :D

Seen them live in the Royal Albert Hall last year... stunning venue and a great gig. Also caught them at Glastonbury back in '03... a really excellent set.
Young Team is easily their finest album but EP+6 probably gets the most time in my CD player .. of course both pale in comparison to Explosion In The Sky's The Earth Is Not a Cold Dead Place :)

If you like EITS you may want to check out a band called The Drift who are on the same label as them Temporary Residence. Mono are also great

Got Mr Beast and thought it was pretty good. I havn't really thought about looking more into them, instrumental only does so much for me.

I think Mogwai are pretty good, but as far as 'post-rock' goes, you can do a lot better. Godspeed never get old and M83, if you can call them post-rock, are my current favourite.

    "Post-Rock" is totally played.

Suprised no mention of Zidane or Kixking a dead pig, loved them both! Yeah definitely one of the highlights of last years Picnic.
EiTS, M83, Mono, Bedhead, Metronomy, etc. all get homourable mentions.
